When the real President really flies in the real Air Force One, is the plane normally escorted by military jets? Or does it fly solo?

Anon is asking because a planefag reported yesterday that the plane flying "president biden" to Maryland did not have a callsign indicating it was AF-1. Got it. But regardless of the callsign, if it's really the POTUS shouldn't we also be seeing other planes flying alongside it?
