Why is the guy that called Babbit "a girl" buddying up with her friends and family at a funeral and writing an article about in TGP?

You might be able to tell me that she really died but you can't tell me her friends and family, in a genuine situation, wouldn't be skeptical of ANY/EVERYONE near the scene, and only in an upside down Twilight Zone Episode from 1984 would the same guy be writing about it in TGP.
