Yes. Look everyone this volcano has been oozing lava for decades.
Sometimes, its a bit more active, and the lava SLOWLY TRAVELS down the volcano.
It is so slow, people watch it and leave when too close.
The land/rent is cheap in that area, so people live in it's various paths.
Just like CA is not concerned about EQ, they are not too concerned about the frequent lava.
In fact, tourists are taken to the areas, there are State Parks, etc.
EQ are common too.
The large island of Hawaii is also the newest island, so it hasn't simmered down like the others.
