Maryland Bill Seeks to Rename ‘Indian Head Highway’ to ‘President Barack Obama Highway’
Maryland state senators have introduced a bill to rename “Indian Head Highway” to “President Barack Obama Highway.”
The bill to change the name was introduced by Democratic state Senators Arthur Ellis and Obie Patterson.
The highway is currently named after a Maryland town that it runs along. Ellis is also pushing for the town to change their name.
The Hill reports that Ellis claims that the name “may be deemed offensive to indigenous persons,” and urged the town to be renamed to “better reflect the State of Maryland’s respect of indigenous history, culture, and persons.” That effort is up for consideration later this month.
The highway, also known as Maryland Rt. 210, runs through parts of Maryland and Washington, D.C. According to reports, it would cost taxpayers $12,500 to cover the costs for design, construction and installation of new signs.
If the bill passes, the name change will go into effect in October.

DESPERATION: Dems, RINOS Beg For ‘9/11-Type Commission’ To Investigate Trump As Public Interest In Jan. 6 Coverage Plummets
Following the second failed impeachment of President Donald Trump, lawmakers and media personalities look to other options to stoke public outrage
Multiple members of Congress and corporate media talking heads are begging for a “9/11-type commission” to obsess over and investigate the January 6 Capitol protest, following the acquittal of former President Donald Trump in an impeachment trial that was roundly mocked for being unconstitutional and was not taken seriously by the general public.
“We need a 9/11 commission to find out what happened and make sure it never happens again, and I want to make sure that the Capitol footprint can be better defended next time,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said during a Fox News appearance on Sunday. Other republicans have followed suit in begging for a commission.
Prominent Democrats such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have also promoted the idea, with Pelosi writing, “It is also clear that we will need to establish a 9/11-type commission to examine the facts, causes, and security relating to the terrorist mob attack on January 6” in an email to fellow members of Congress.
Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) pontificated about his desire to “lay bare the record of just how responsible and how abjectly violating of his constitutional oath Trump really was” during a television appearance over the weekend.
The idea has also received enthusiastic support from the left-wing corporate media, as outlets struggle to stoke public outrage about President Donald Trump now that he is no longer in office.

House Bill Calls for United States to Boycott Beijing Olympics
Waltz says honoring China would be 'immoral, unethical and wrong'
Rep. Michael Waltz (R., Fla.) introduced a measure on Monday that calls on the United States to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics if they are not moved out of Beijing, China, citing the Communist government’s human rights abuses and failure to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Waltz, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and a war veteran, said the United States should boycott the games if they are held in China. The resolution calls on the U.S. Olympic Committee to propose a new site outside of China for the 2022 games. If that location is rejected, the "United States Olympic Committee and the Olympic Committees of other countries should withdraw from the 2022 Olympic Games," the resolution says.
Waltz is just the latest American lawmaker to raise alarm about the Olympic Committee’s decision to keep the games in China as the country wages a genocide against its Uighur ethnic minority, which has been put into forced labor camps and abused. China’s oppression of Democratic protesters in Hong Kong also has been cited as a reason to relocate the Olympics.
"The world cannot legitimize the CCP’s acts of genocide in Xinjiang, destruction of the democratic rights of Hong Kong, and dangerous suppression of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan that cost lives by sending delegations to Beijing," Waltz said. The resolution further states that holding the event in China would be "immoral, unethical, and wrong."
The International Hockey Federation recently pulled its 2021 championship series out of Belarus as a result of the country’s human rights infractions. U.S. lawmakers and human rights advocates say that decision should create pressure on the Olympic Committee to follow suit and move its games out of a country that routinely oppresses its citizens and spies on foreigners.

Hackers Auction Data from Breach Against Polish Game Designer
Cybercriminals behind the hack on CD Projekt Red, a Polish video-game designer responsible for hit titles such as The Witcher series and the recently-released CyberPunk 2077, have held a multi-million dollar auction for the data they stole.
Attacks involving ransomware have proliferated over the past 12 months, reflecting a growth in the number of cybercriminals providing their services for a fee. (Source: Wikimedia Commons)Attacks involving ransomware have proliferated over the past 12 months, reflecting a growth in the number of cybercriminals providing their services for a fee. (Source: Wikimedia Commons)According to a ransom note left by the hackers, which was released by CD Projekt Red last week, the source code for the company’s games as well as accounting and financial information was stolen.
The hackers said that they would release the data publicly, citing contacts in gaming journalism, if the company did not come to an agreement within 48 hours.
CD Projekt Red declared that they had no intention of paying up or negotiating with the criminals. With the deadline since having passed, those responsible now look to be trying to profit from the hack via other means.
According to Vx-Underground, a Twitter account which reports on cybersecurity, a sample of the code was posted on dark web marketplace Exploit ahead of an auction for the full datasets.
The minimum bid was US$1 million, with bidding restricted to $500,000 increments and a ‘buy now’ price of $7 Million.
These reports were confirmed by cybersecurity firm KELA, which added that the data had sold outside of the auction on Thursday.
According to Fabian Wosar, CTO of anti-malware firm Emsisoft, the hack may be the work of a hacker collective known as HelloKitty, which was also believed to have hacked Brazilian energy firm CEMIG last year.
Cybercrime has grown exponentially over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, as both criminals and their most vulnerable victims all find themselves working from home.
Ransomware, such as that which was used against CD Projekt Red, is one of the most lucrative resources available to cybercriminals, according to an April report by Europol.
Attacks involving ransomware have proliferated over the past 12 months, reflecting a growth in the number of cybercriminals providing their services for a fee.
These actors have not discriminated in their choice of targets, with such breaches being reported against critical healthcare infrastructure already overwhelmed by the conditions brought on by the pandemic.
The recent hack and subsequent auction comes at a turbulent time for CD Projekt Red.
In December 2020, a U.S lawsuit was opened against the Polish company accusing them of securities fraud, citing the controversy over their latest release, Cyberpunk 2077.
The game, hotly anticipated for years, garnered eight million pre-orders before it was released on December 10.
However, despite the company’s claim that the new title was compatible with both new-generation and older gaming systems, customers using older systems widely complained of serious glitches and software crashes while playing the game.
Many complained it was all but ‘unplayable’, leaving millions having paid for an effectively unusable product.
The lawsuit alleges that the company not only lied to customers about the compatibility of its new title with older systems, but also that it misled investors, who saw the value of their shares in the company drop nearly 50% after the game’s release.

Authorities charge former NJ school teacher with sexually assaulting, showing pornography to 10-year-old girl
Disgusting
Authorities arrested 53-year-old Gustavo Barrientos of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl and repeatedly showing her pornography.
According to a Monday report from the New York Post, Barrientos, a former elementary school teacher, is facing first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into lurid accusations of sexual deviance.
Monmouth County prosecutors on Sunday said that Barrientos purportedly "showed the 10-year-old female student porn" and "sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions while working as an elementary school teacher for Long Branch Public Schools."
Barrientos was in custody as of Thursday pending a detention hearing and remained incarcerated without bond as of Monday at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
A spokesperson for the prosecutor said that there are no additional details to provide regarding the case at the time of this reporting.
According to WABC-TV, authorities are searching for any other potential victims and urge anyone with information on the case or charges against Barrientos to come forward.
Barrientos had been a teacher in New Jersey since 2007, according to the Post. Officials have reportedly declined to identify the school where the alleged assaults took place.
Anything else?
Barrientos faces life in prison if convicted on charges of aggravated sexual assault, and could also be sentenced to 10 years if found guilty of endangering the welfare of a child.
Also, Barrientos would be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and required to register under Megan's Law.
Any persons with information on the case are asked to call Detective Todd Coleman with the Long Branch Police Department at 732-222-1000, or Detective Sergeant Shawn Murphy of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Special Victim's Bureau at 732-431-7160 ext. 7032.
Others can submit an anonymous tip to the Monmouth County Crime Stoppers at its confidential tip line at 800-671-4400.

Smoking gun: Comey told Clapper FBI unable to 'sufficiently corroborate' Steele — then signed FISA
In January 2017 email to intel chief coughed up under court order, the former FBI director contradicted sworn avowal to FISA court that Steele dossier was verified.
The very day in January 2017 that then-FBI Director James Comey signed a FISA surveillance warrant application declaring content from Christopher Steele's dossier had been "verified," he wrote President Obama's outgoing intelligence community chief with a very different assessment of the British spy's intelligence on Russia collusion, a newly released memo shows.
"We are not able to sufficiently corroborate the reporting," Comey wrote in a Jan. 12, 2017 email to then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper that was declassified and made public through an open records lawsuit by the Southeastern Legal Foundation.
The memo recounts an internal debate inside the U.S. intelligence community during one of the most delicate moments in the FBI's then six-month old Crossfire Hurricane probe.
CIA officials had already informed Comey's FBI that the target of the FISA warrant, Carter Page, wasn't a Russian spy but rather an asset helping U.S. intelligence. The bureau had received warnings about Steele and the reliability of his source network, including that it might have been compromised by Russian disinformation. Agents had also just recommended on Jan. 4, 2017 shutting down the probe's inquiry into incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for lack of evidence.
The FBI had been warned the previous summer that Hillary Clinton's campaign may have planted the false Russia collusion story as a way to "vilify" Trump and distract from her email scandal, and agents were about to interview Steele's primary sub-source, who would discount much of the information in the dossier attributed to him as bar talk and unconfirmed rumor not worthy of official intelligence.
And the larger intelligence community had decided it did not want to vouch for the Steele dossier in its official Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
It was in that environment in the final days of the Obama administration that Clapper had written Comey earlier on Jan. 12, 2017 to inform the FBI that Clapper had decided to release a public statement declaring that the Steele dossier was only mentioned in an appendix to the intel community's report because the "IC has not made any judgment that the information in the document is reliable."
Comey tried to push back, suggesting Steele was deemed reliable (he actually had been terminated by the FBI for leaking by that time) and that his network included sources that might be in a position to know things (although the key source had already disavowed the information attributed to him in the dossier).
