Specific to the phones situation is the fact that FVEY (5 Eyes) countries like NZ enjoy information sharing parity with each other, including the US. So while the CIA couldn't technically get permission to spy on you personally, NZ could, and then share the info they found with the CIA. Their quick slide into hell was begun by their confiscation and outlawing of guns, the same as Australia. That is the playbook.
We can only hope that Trump Co. has been able to neutralize the DUMBS under NZ and can begin to cut the control strings once he is back in power.
