‘We the People’ gone and no one noticed: Biden removes Obama-era petition tool to thunderous media silence

President Joe Biden has gone beyond purging the legacy of Donald Trump to scrub that of Barack Obama too, taking down the White House petitions page. The media was too busy gushing over his Valentine’s Day display to notice.

All links to ‘We the People,’ the petition page launched out by the Obama administration in 2011, now redirect to the main White House website. Neither the ‘Contact’ nor ‘Get Involved’ links, which used to lead to it, do so anymore. Apparently, this has been the case since January 20, when the Biden administration took over both the White House and its website.

Yet for the past four weeks, not a single mainstream media outlet has noticed its disappearance. It was pointed out on Monday by Eric Garris, webmaster for the libertarian website Antiwar.com.

Turbines Freeze Up in Texas Cold Snap – Shutting Down Nearly Half of the Wind Energy in West Texas

A winter storm is causing chaos in Texas. Power outages were initiated by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas early on Monday morning. This means hundreds of thousands of Texans are without electricity for short periods of time. Temperatures fell into the teens near Dallas and 20s around Houston.

According to reports nearly half of the wind energy is down in West Texas after the turbines froze.

Former Marine Corps officer, GOP state Sen. Paul Schimpf announces bid for Illinois governor

Former military prosecutor and one-term Downstate Republican state Sen. Paul Schimpf formally announced his candidacy for governor on Monday, contending Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker has lost public confidence over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schimpf, of Waterloo in the Metro-East area of southwestern Illinois, also contended recent Illinois governors have been out of touch with their constituents.

“For far too long, we have had Illinois governors who were either career politicians or wealthy corporate executives who couldn’t understand or empathize with the struggles that the people of Illinois face,” he said in making his announcement for the GOP nomination via Zoom.

Videos: Rocket attacks on US-Coalition forces in Iraq injures US troop, kills civilian contractor

Rocket attacks struck US-led Coalition forces in Erbil, Iraq on Monday, killing one civilian contractor, killing one and injuring six – including an American service member.

Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto confirmed the attack Monday afternoon in tweet: “Initial reports that Indirect Fire landed on Coalition Forces in Erbil tonight. There was 1 civilian contractor killed, 5 civilian contractors injured and 1 US service member injured. More information to follow.”

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the civilian contractors were American or another nationality. However, CNN correspondent Oren Liebermann said four of the five injured civilian contractors are American. One civilian contractor injured and another killed are not Americans, Liebermann said, citing a defense official. Several others reporters tweeted matching information.

Cuomo Warns NY Legislature Not to Threaten Him With Subpoenas Over Nursing Home COVID-19 Deaths

This man is a horrible person.

New York state legislators and other officials have demanded investigations into Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coverup of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.

Cuomo warned them not to threaten him with subpoenas because, try not to laugh, it’s a crime. He also defended the policy.

Melissa DeRosa, Cuomo’s secretary, set off a firestorm last week when she “apologized to Democratic lawmakers for withholding the state’s nursing home death toll.”

DeRosa said the administration “froze” because they feared President Donald Trump’s DOJ would use the numbers “against” them.

Democrats immediately called for a “full investigation” and threats to rescind his emergency powers.

CDC Admits It Based School Guidelines on Teacher Input and Stakeholders

Stakeholders. In other words, lobbying groups. Lobbying groups over parents and students.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) admitted during a press conference that it based its new school guidelines on science, but also input from teachers and stakeholders.

No wonder the guidelines pretty much give unions and schools an excuse to not return to in-person learning.

It’s weird how one week officials say schools should reopen and the next they come up with every excuse to keep it all closed.

The bipartisan group Open Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia found a few interesting tidbits in the transcript of a press conference with the CDC.

Petition To Censure Sen. Romney For Impeachment Vote Circulates Among Utah GOP

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) faces potential censure from his own party in Utah if a petition spreading among the state’s GOP gains traction.

The petition, which is circulating on social media, accuses Utah’s junior senator of having failed to “represent the average conservative Utah voter,” as well has having “misrepresented himself as a Republican,” according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

“Senator Willard Mitt Romney has prioritized his personal and political vendetta against President Donald J. Trump ahead of the Constitution of the United States, the interest of We, the People, and the advancement of the Republican Platform,” the petition alleges in part.

A study published by FIAN International ‘Disruption or Déjà Vu? Digitalization, Land and Human Rights’ reveals how digital technologies have become new tools for land grabs and sources of profits. Based on research conducted in Brazil, Indonesia, Georgia, India and Rwanda, the study shows that the use of digital tools in land governance exacerbates existing forms of exclusion.

Some of the key findings include:

Corporations, wealthy individuals as well as local elites are using new digital tools to appropriate lands, resulting in the displacement of families and entire communities. A case in point is Mirador State Park in Brazil, where agribusiness companies have illegally encroached into a 700,000-hectare conservation area using digital land registries, dispossessing hundreds of families from lands where they have been living for generations.

Google & Facebook falling in line ‘very soon’ with Australian government media reform bill

Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says that there has been “great progress” in talks between the tech giants and Australia in regards to the new Australia’s News Media Bargaining Code, which first emerged in 2019.

The purpose of the bill is to establish reciprocity for news and media organizations mandating the tech companies to pay for content as well as implement certain transparency about the algorithms in use.

Both Facebook and Google have rebutted the demands and states that it would give Australian media companies an unfair advantage by knowing the inner workings of how their technology works.

Google has gone so far as to threaten to completely bar Australians access to their services.
