JetBlue released the following statement: “JetBlue flight 221 from Boston to Palm Beach (PBI) diverted to Raleigh-Durham in an abundance of caution after the pilots reported a potential mechanical issue. The flight landed safely at approximately 10:16 p.m. local time, and customers deplaned normally. Customers were accommodated on another aircraft.”

Retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who was fired by President Barack Obama after making insulting comments about top administration officials, was named Tuesday to the JetBlue Airways Corp. board of directors.

JetBlue Chairman Joel Peterson said McChrystal added "a new dimension to an already strong corps of advisors" at the New York-based airline.

"His reputation for critical thinking and strength in strategy will bring true value to JetBlue," Peterson added.

CEO Dave Barger said McChrystal, 56, would offer "fresh perspectives."

Obama fired McChrystal in July after comments that the general and his aides made about civilian leaders in a profile in Rolling Stone. The magazine dubbed McChrystal "The Runaway General" and quoted him and his aides mocking Vice President Joe Biden and other top administration officials.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates lauded the general during a going-away ceremony at the end of his 3-decade military career, saying it was possible that no American had generated more fear among the nation's violent enemies than McChrystal.

Maribel Martinez of New York had arranged for her 5-year-old son, Andy, to fly home unaccompanied on JetBlue from the Dominican Republic on Aug. 17. But when she went to pick him up at Kennedy International Airport, she got the shock of her life.

Airline employees presented her with a boy who was clutching Andy’s passport and luggage. But he was not her child.

In an emailed statement on Friday, JetBlue said that two unaccompanied children of the same age had been booked from Cibao International Airport in Santiago on separate planes: Flight 924 to Boston and Flight 436 to New York. But each child boarded a flight to the wrong destination, the airline said.
