South Carolina passes bill banning nearly all abortions — and Democrats throw a temper tantrum

'Childish behavior'

The South Carolina state legislature passed a major piece of legislation Wednesday banning nearly all abortions in the state — and now the bill is on its way to the governor's desk to be signed into law.

The bill, known as the "South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act," passed the state House by a vote of 79 to 35 Wednesday afternoon, according to the Associated Press. Late last month, the state Senate voted 30 to 13 in favor of the proposal.

Under the legislation, doctors are required to perform ultrasounds on pregnant mothers seeking an abortion to check if the baby has a heartbeat. Should a heartbeat be detected, the abortion is outlawed except for in rare cases where the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest or the mother's life is in danger.

Heartbeats are normally detected as early as six weeks, oftentimes before women even know they are pregnant.

Now that the House has approved the proposal, a perfunctory third vote on the bill is planned for Thursday, after which Republican Gov. Henry McMaster is expected to sign it into law.

What else?

Since its introduction, the bill was all but sure to succeed given its support in the Republican-controlled Congress. But that didn't stop Democratic lawmakers from throwing a temper tantrum as the legislation was readied for passage.

The State reported that nearly every Democratic member of the House walked out of the chamber as the bill was taken up for debate on Wednesday. Only a few Democrats remained in the chamber for the debate.

One lawmaker, Rep. Jonathan Hill, even stormed out of the building while tossing his amendments to the proposal up in the air. As he left, Republican House Speaker Jay Lucas reportedly said, "If you want to engage in such childish behavior the sergeants will make sure you're not here with us."

KENTUCKY: County GOP Demands McConnell Resign After Trump Slams ‘Dour, Sullen, Unsmiling Political Hack’ In Statement

"Your leadership in the US Senate does not represent the Republican voters that put our faith in you in the last primary election"

The Republican Party of Nelson County, Kentucky’s Chairman, Don Thrasher, authored a letter slamming Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday, demanding that the Senator step down from office because his “leadership in the U.S. Senate does not represent the Republican voters that put our faith in you in the last primary election.”

Thrasher’s letter directly references a statement released by President Donald Trump on Tuesday that castigated McConnell as a “dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.”

“Given that the county party that I represent supports President Trump overwhelmingly and the complete and total disdain for the will of your constituents here in Nelson County I am formally demanding you resign your leadership position within our party’s caucus in the United States Senate,” Thrasher wrote.

Thrasher continued, “The overwhelming number of Republicans in Nelson County are not on your side on your side on this issue and I speak on their behalf. I cannot speak for other county parties in Kentucky but if my pressed for my thought I would say without reservation their constituents agree with my position on the matter.”

“Your leadership in the US Senate does not represent the Republican voters that put our faith in you in the last primary election,” Thrasher concluded. “There I am formally requesting you resign your position as Republican Caucus Leader of the U.S. Senate, forthwith and with all possible dispatch.”

McConnell claimed, without evidence, over the weekend that President Donald Trump “fed wild falsehoods” to his supporters because “he was angry” and “he had lost an election,” and called for more investigations into President Trump, who McConnell claimed is “still liable for everything he did while he’s in office.”

Houthi Snipers Hunt Down Saudi-led Coalition Fighters, Equipment On Several Fronts

On February 17, the Houthis released a video documenting some of the attacks carried out by their sniper units during January.

The 4-minute video shows Houthi snipers targeting 17 Saudi-backed fighters, four in the central Yemen province of al-‘Dali, six in the northwestern province of Hajjah, two near the border with the Saudi province of Jizan and five along the border with the province of Najran.

Houthi snipers also destroyed a surveillance system installed in a frontline post in the district of Harad in al-‘Dali as well as four machine guns mounted in a fortified position on the border line with Najran.

The Yemeni group arms its snipers with a variety of locally modified heavy sniper rifles and western-made sniper rifles, which had been captured from the Saudi military.

The Houthis’ sniper units have inflicted serious losses on the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies since the outbreak of the war in Yemen more than five years ago. These small units stepped up their operations in the last three years.
