A Trump criminal probe in Georgia expands to include Sen. Lindsey Graham

A Georgia district attorney is investigating whether Graham violated state law in a call with an elections official.

In Georgia, a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump’s post-election conduct is expanding to include close Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to a Friday report by the Washington Post.

The investigation, which was opened by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis earlier this month, will probe whether Trump — and now Graham — violated state law in the course of Trump’s attempt to overturn the election results in Georgia following the 2020 presidential election.

According to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Graham — a Republican from South Carolina — asked Raffensperger in November whether the secretary of state had the power to throw out all mail-in ballots in certain Georgia counties, a move that could potentially have tipped the state, and its 16 electoral votes, to Trump in the November election.

L.A. County DA George Gascon Speaks Out on Chateau Marmont Racial Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct Claims

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, who took office in December, has weighed in on the alleged pervasive culture of racial discrimination and sexual misconduct against workers at legendary West Hollywood industry hangout the Chateau Marmont.

The claims first surfaced in a September 2020 investigation in The Hollywood Reporter. Last month, a Black actress employed as a server filed a civil lawsuit contending she’d been repeatedly passed over for higher-paying roles in favor of white hires she then had to train and also physically violated by guests for years during special events — and the superiors she told about the harassment shrugged it away.

“I am aware of the civil lawsuit and allegations made regarding the Chateau Marmont hotel,” Gascon said in a statement provided to THR. “Workers can often feel powerless when dealing with hostile workplaces, dangerous work conditions and wage theft. I am committed to workers in Los Angeles County.”

Gascon, who didn’t reveal plans for prosecution at this time, ran on a progressive platform which may place the Chateau in his crosshairs. During a campaign debate he announced that “one of the things I would do [if elected] is create a civil rights division within the D.A.’s office.”

THR’s investigation detailed a workplace of entrenched toxic behavior, obliged by management, where the Chateau’s permissive tagline — “Always a safe haven” — didn’t protect staff. Hotel owner Andre Balazs himself stands accused of a pattern of racist hiring preferences and groping his own employees. The Chateau has denied all claims, and declined to respond to Gascon’s comment.

In recent weeks multiple local officials have said that, in light of the revelations, they would avoid the landmark lodging, and organizations ranging from SAG-AFTRA to the National Organization for Women have decried the situation. (Pastor Stephen “Cue” Jn-Marie, of the L.A.-based Clergy for Black Lives, compared the hotel’s apparent treatment of its employees to “plantation capitalism.”)

A recently circulated pledge to boycott the Chateau, organized by hospitality union Unite Here 11, which has sought to organize the hotel’s workers, has garnered the support of the likes of Jane Fonda. Fonda’s public relations company, Sunshine Sachs, had also represented the hotel. When contacted for this story a representative for the firm noted it had dropped the Chateau since the civil lawsuit was filed in late January.

The hotel subsequently hired a crisis communications agency, Edendale Strategies.

What's behind Biden's snub of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman

Analysis by Nic Robertson, International Diplomatic Editor 2 hrs ago

The single most ridiculous claim in Donald Trump's statement slamming Mitch…

“Mr. Kim is lying”: Cuomo aide says state Democratic lawmaker made up threat…

In a region where respect, or the lack of it, is as powerful as a physical punch, President Joe Biden's press secretary just landed a sharp jab on the jaw of Saudi Arabia's heir apparent.

When answering a question Tuesday about when Biden would talk to the desert kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS, Press Secretary Jen Psaki replied: "We've made clear from the beginning that we're going to recalibrate our relationship with Saudi Arabia."

"And part of that is going back to engagement, counterpart to counterpart. The President's counterpart is King Salman, and I expect that, in appropriate time, he would have a conversation with him. I don't have a prediction of the timeline on that."

Whether strict protocol or intended diminution of MBS's ranking, the move reflects Biden's public disapproval of the ruler in waiting whom the CIA concluded would have known of plans that resulted in the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in October 2018.

On the campaign trail, Biden said he would treat Saudi Arabia as a "pariah." His NSA pick, Avril Haines, says she will make public a report on Khashoggi's brutal murder at the hands of Saudi agents inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

Psaki may have also been diplomatically indicating an end to the cozy and corner-cutting relationship which MBS enjoyed under former President Donald Trump. The unpredictable prince often bypassed the State Department through phone calls and dinners with Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and special adviser on the Middle East.

That MBS has been put on notice so publicly will be an embarrassment he can't hide, but it doesn't mean he won't be in on Biden's calls with the King.

MBS is the power behind the monarchy and the vision shaping the country's future. To assume that MBS won't know what Biden says to the King or won't help shape replies would be an underestimation of his sway.

A stark recent example of MBS's power behind the throne played out late mid-November last year. Israeli sources leaked that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had met with MBS in the kingdom, marking a massive diplomatic shift between the two countries. Multiple Saudi ministers denied it publicly and privately. Experienced Saudi watchers believe this was because MBS had not told his father about the hugely sensitive visit and needed to cover his tracks.

But perhaps what interests President Biden is not the impact the diplomatic putdown will have inside the kingdom, but how it will resonate around the rest of the world.

Ex-Trump press secretary criticized for stirring up QAnon on Twitter

BY DOMINICK MASTRANGELO - 02/17/21 01:30 PM EST

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has come under fire for a tweet seen as a nod to the QAnon movement.

A former GOP congressman and an ex-aide to former Vice President Mike Pence who has become a vocal critic of former President Trump were among the voices arguing that McEnany was giving air to a dangerous conspiracy theory with her tweet.

"This is pathetic even for [McEnany] standards. It’s also dangerous given the conspiracy theories the #Trump movement has led, but you know that already Kayleigh & you don’t care," tweeted Olivia Troye, a former top aide to Pence and vocal critic of the administration since leaving it. "Remember this when the next Pizzagate type of attack happens-You’re enabling it."

McEnany in the tweet singled out a comment from President Biden about children.

"Signing off with a final notable quote from Joe Biden during his town hall this evening," McEnany tweeted late Tuesday night following Biden's town hall on CNN. "'Everyone knows I love kids better than people.'"

McEnany added a "questioning" emoji to the end of her tweet.

Critics blasted the comment as a nod to the false conspiracy that has been cultivated on the internet in recent years and alleges many of the country's political leaders are pedophiles or child murderers.

Several of the people who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 have told authorities they believe in the QAnon conspiracy.

The former press secretary attempted to clarify what she meant by her tweet in responding to Tapper.

"I tweeted this revealing, bizarre quote from Joe Biden that underscores his horrific pro-choice, anti-child policies that have dehumanized life (Mexico City policy etc.)," she said. "[Tapper] your source should put her name on the record if she claims to know the intent of my tweets."
