University at center of admissions bribery scandal welcomes Mike Madrid

Mike Madrid, a cofounder of the scandal-plagued Lincoln Project, is scheduled to appear at a panel discussion Thursday hosted by the University of Southern California, the alma mater of Heisman Trophy winner O.J. Simpson, among others.

Unlike his fellow Lincoln Project cofounders, who have taken time off or pressed "pause" on public appearances while a law firm conducts a "comprehensive review" of the organization, Madrid has continued to appear on podcasts and in other media forums.

Thursday's virtual event, hosted by the university's Dornsife Center for the Political Future, will consist of a panel discussion with Madrid and others about the changing patterns of minority voters. It will be moderated by Republican strategist Mike Murphy, the center's co-director alongside Democratic strategist Bob Shrum.

The high-priced university, which found itself at the center of a college admissions bribery scandal in 2019, did not return a request for comment on Madrid's appearance at the event amid the ongoing sexual harassment scandal at the organization he founded.

Madrid quietly resigned from the Lincoln Project in December, several weeks before news outlets started publishing reports on allegations of predatory sexual behavior against his fellow cofounder, John Weaver. News of Madrid's resignation, and that of another cofounder, Ron Steslow, was not reported until after the allegations began to surface in January.

Madrid has yet to comment publicly on the scandal and reportedly signed a non-disclosure agreement after receiving a generous financial settlement from the Lincoln Project. It is not known whether Madrid is among the group of (anonymous) former Lincoln Project associates demanding to be released from their confidentiality agreements in order to speak freely about the organization.

Earlier this month, the Washington Blade reported that Madrid and other senior members of the Lincoln Project were made aware of the allegations against Weaver as early as August 2020. Subsequent reports have indicated the group's leaders knew of Weaver's predatory behavior as early as March of last year.

The burgeoning scandal has prompted numerous resignations at the Lincoln Project in recent days, while damning reports on the group's handling of the Weaver allegations have prompted several former employees to suggest the super PAC should cease to exist.

Erika Maldonado Singh, assistant director of the Center for the Political Future, confirmed in a statement to the Washington Free Beacon that Madrid would participate in Thursday's event. "He's a longtime friend of the Center and served as a fellow well before his involvement with the Lincoln Project," she said. "We welcome his insights and perspectives on tomorrow’s topic ‘Are people of color becoming swing voters?'"

The panel members, she added, will "focus their collective intellectual energy on the important subject advertised to our audience," as opposed to issues related to the sexual harassment of young men by a Lincoln Project cofounder.

Sexual abuse survivor wants former boys' school principal stripped of Order of Australia award

Chris Stoker is desperate to move on and find some closure decades after becoming a victim of the sick fantasies of serial paedophile Kevin Lynch.

Every day since he was a 12-year-old boy, Mr Stoker, now 50, has relived the abuse he endured at the hands of the serial child molester, who was a school counsellor between 1973 and 1988 at Brisbane Grammar School (BGS), one of Queensland's leading boys' schools.

The abuse lasted for three-and-a-half years.

Mr Stoker's older brother was also a Lynch victim — his abuse also started when he was 12 and lasted the same length of time.

Both men feel betrayed that the man whose job it was to protect them and scores of other young boys — then BGS principal Max Howell — refused to act when he was made aware of the predator's behaviour as early as 1981.

Chris Stoker said he was also physically assaulted by Mr Howell during those years.

Mr Howell died in 2011, denying knowledge of any abuse.

Mr Stoker has spent several months campaigning to have the former BGS headmaster stripped of his Order of Australia (OAM) for services to education, that he was awarded on January 26, 1986.

In 1990, Mr Howell was awarded an honorary doctorate by Griffith University.

Last October, Mr Stoker wrote to the university urging that title be revoked and the institution yesterday agreed to act, two days after being contacted by the ABC.

But Mr Howell's OAM still stands and is easy to find on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet 'It's an Honour' webpage.

"They are perpetuating his behaviour, continually recognising him for his failings for protecting children," Mr Stoker said.

"It makes a statement that it is OK to have done those things, that it is OK to have ignored children's pleas for help.

"Dr Howell completely failed the children who were at Brisbane Grammar School — I know at the time he accepted the award, I was being abused by Kevin Lynch.

"I relive that abuse every day of my life and I do not need more reminders of that abuse being sanctioned by our Government."

Sexual violence against children being used as a ‘weapon’ of war

Australian Georgia Tracey will always remember encountering a 15-year-old Yazidi girl in a refugee camp in northern Iraq.

The Save the Children worker found the girl with a young child and pregnant with another. The father of both her children was an Islamic State fighter.

“She was stolen by ISIS when she was nine and she returned home with one child and pregnant, to a family that didn’t exist anymore. Her mother was stolen as well and her father had been killed,” Ms Tracey said.

“She was incredibly vulnerable and destined to a life of poverty. She certainly looked like she had lived several lives by the age of 15.”

There are many cases like this in northern Iraq where ISIS led a genocidal campaign against the Yazidis with 6400 people – mostly women and girls – kidnapped in 2014.

Armed forces are increasingly waging a war of sexual violence against children around the world, with a new Save the Children report to be released on Thursday warning it is being used as a “weapon” against minors.

The number of children at risk of sexual violence committed by armed forces or militant groups is almost 10 times higher today than it was in 1990.

“Whilst boys were definitely subjected to a lot of sexual violence within the armed forces … it was definitely the women and girls who suffered the brunt of the sexual slavery,” said Ms Tracey, who has been based in northern Iraq for the past two years.

“Six years on, the women and girls who were liberated or released have returned to a decimated community with a lot of their family dead and these girls have returned home physically and psychologically injured and traumatised, with their childhood stolen.”

In the first quantitative analysis of the risk of sexual violence against children in conflict over the past three decades, the report warns the most recent years have seen a bigger share of armed actors who commit sexual violence in conflict doing so against children.

Sexual atrocities committed by state forces against children nearly doubled from 2018 to 2019.

More than 70 million children throughout the world live close to conflicts where hostile actors have committed sexual violence against minors over the last year.

The countries with the highest share of children living in conflict zones with reports of sexual violence by armed forces or groups include Iraq, Yemen, Syria, South Sudan, Somalia and Colombia.

Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, founded the Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1999 “with the intention to build a centre of excellence for maternal health”, but found himself treating children.

Six People Detained in Mexico Over Producing False Vaccines Against COVID-19

Six people have been detained in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon over the production of false vaccines against COVID-19, the Ministry of Security and Civilian Protection said.

“False vaccines have been confiscated in Nuevo Leon … The use of this type of immunization puts the public health under threat,” the ministry said in a statement on late Wednesday.

The ministry also called on Mexican citizens to be vigilant and receive vaccines only in state centers and hospitals.

The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 109.87 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 2.42 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Mexico has confirmed more than 2 million COVID-19 cases so far, with over 175,000 fatalities.
