Natural gas provider urges energy conservation from customers

Natural gas companies that service the Austin area are urging people to reduce their use of gas-powered appliances, such as furnaces, fireplaces and stove ovens.

Texas Gas Service, which serves about 260,000 customers in the Austin area, said the use of natural gas has spiked with recent electric outages. The company on Wednesday asked residents with power to limit the use of gas-powered appliances, such as hot water, stoves, furnaces and fireplaces, and the thermostat at lower temperatures.
