The same shitty thing is repeated hundreds of times in western capitalist democracies all over the world.
A group of greedy crooks lobby a group of even greedier politicians to deregulate and privatize state owned utility and resource companies and they sell off what was never theirs to sell…to the applause of the market.
Now the companies are intentionally undervalued and bought up by some faceless multinational corporation for a steal…The kickbacks are delivered and the politicians jump ship to retirement.
All the workers who built the plants are slowly picked off due to 'restructuring' and customer service plummets while prices rise. The whole industry competes in race to the bottom, suffering the whole time from a lack of investment while any profits are hoovered up and shipped offshore.
The board of directors flounders around, barely staying afloat…dragging the companies in any and every direction.
Then some well foreseen event exposes their incompetence and the whole charade grinds to a halt.
Maybe I'm just being cynical though?
