even though the climate in Texas is not normally like what has been encountered, save coastal areas, most WT are in western Texas where conditions are more conducive to icing of turbine blades. The WindFarm owners made financial decisions not to winterize their blades on installation. Can they be refitted with different blades capable of anti/de ice capabilities? Not likely without an entire swap out. Other states winterized, other countries winterized. Texas….nope. Ice makes blades out of balance leading to vibrations, bearing failures, etc.

Whoever in gov't approved the plans to install these things without "fully" considering the percentage wind energy supplies to the grid are short sighted.

The board members, yep. Take a peek at those that are unassigned or some other descriptor. Banker types…yes, big banks are involved in ERCOT and they make financial derivatives and profits off those things. A rumor way back was even that some generators would "tank" their plant so that when MW prices sold peaked, they'd miraculously come back online to get in on the action.

Increased base loading in Nuclear and coal should have been scheduled well before this. Essentially at the turn from Fall into Winter. Big plants aren't like cars, to use a metaphor, they take some time to ramp up in increased load. Nat gas plants and nat gas peaking plants can, those of the turbine and reciprocating type can all day long.

Fear of emissions exceedances should have been addressed by the TCEQ and given every fuel fired generator permission to exceed as necessary for the duration to meet demand.

It isn't just a D / R argument as both sides are represented all over the industry and they should be held to account for this lack of preparedness.

Panhandle area would be about most frequent

some areas back east towards DFW occasionally depending on depth of air mass penetration.

Solar would be a good choice out west as the last time I recall El Paso area back east towards Midland/Odessa got snow was 2016ish…

What interdasting is that going to the ERCOT and/or EIA website, anon can't seem to find this data.

I wonder who's letting this slip or are anon lurking skills questionable or both
