Nice doubles, but I don't necessarily trust the author of Colossians, and I definitely don't trust modern-day "Christians" who think they understand the book and can apply it.
I agree - nobody should let anybody take anybody captive by philosophy and empty deceit. Unfortunately, I think the modern Church is full of philosophy and empty deceit, and I suspect that most people who quote Colossians are full of philosophy and empty deceit. And incidentally, I don't trust Socrates and his vision of "the good lie" – which is probably different from "empty deceit."
