The first time I tried to grow vegetables in the back yard I looked at all the sunshine on the side fence. I thought about shadows. I planted corn beside the fence -in a line- it grows tall and the shadow will be on the fence, not covering lower vegetable types. So my rows of plants were like that, making sure the taller plants didn't disadvantage the smaller plants.

I thought it would be good. I didn't read any books. Mistake!

The corn plants do not pollenate using bees. Thats too easy. It pollenates from male plant to female plant (can't tell by looking at the seeds) not by bees but the wind, so my line of corn was depending on the wind to be from a very singular direction. So always plant corn randomly in a box shape to let the wind do its work.

Next, I over watered the soil.
