Biden Muscles Out Chicago Prosecutor Hot on the Heels of Powerful Dems

Lawmakers from both parties have called for John Lausch to keep his job

President Joe Biden is forcing Chicago's top federal prosecutor to resign amid ongoing criminal probes of powerful Illinois Democrats and their associates.

U.S. attorney John Lausch is prosecuting close confidants of Democrat boss Mike Madigan, an ally of former president Barack Obama who resigned from the state legislature Thursday after a decades-long reign in Springfield. Lausch's office will also prosecute Chicago alderman Edward Burke (D.), an influential figure accused of strong-arming businesses into retaining his law firm.

Lausch's abrupt removal has drawn bipartisan criticism from Illinois lawmakers who say he should be allowed to finish his work or depart on a longer timeline to ensure an orderly transition. The president asked all Trump-appointed U.S. attorneys to resign by the end of February but allowed two to remain in place to conclude politically sensitive work.

With much of the state's Democratic establishment in his sights, it's not clear why Biden did not extend the same courtesy to Lausch. Madigan's resignation, timed as it is with Lausch's imminent departure, will raise even more pointed questions for Lausch's successor about the future of the case.

Why aren’t school districts giving taxpayers their money back?

In a news release, Superintendent Dan Bridges told residents that he "understands the great burden many of our families have faced during the COVID-19 Pandemic and hopes that this reimbursement lessens that burden." The typical family will receive a refund of $200 to $500. Good for Naperville.

The 10-month pandemic shutdown generated a savings of roughly $20 million, or about 6.5% out of a $300 million school budget. The Naperville Sun reported that the district's expenses for everything from transportation, utilities, staffing needs, and so on have been much lower while the doors have been shut.

Naperville school board member Paul Leong, a local businessman, told me: "It's amazing that we are the only school district in the area or in the state that has given taxpayers some of their money back."

Or in the whole country, for that matter.

Why aren't more school boards in areas where school buildings were shut down providing families and businesses with property tax rebate checks?

Heritage Foundation education analyst Lindsey Burke, who first suggested the tax rebate idea many months ago, said that if schools aren't open, the taxpayers who fund the schools deserve a break. But the National Taxpayers Association said it hasn't found any other school districts that have done so

TV Shows Push Gun Control Myths – in Sync With Biden

Last week, the Biden administration promised gun control groups that it will soon roll out a massive push for limits on firearm purchases and other measures. President Biden reiterated that promise on Sunday. And the television networks aren’t waiting to lay the groundwork for this effort.

CBS is in a full-court press for gun control on its evening entertainment television shows. The bad guys are always white supremacists who use machine guns — supposedly AR-15s — to commit mass public shootings. Criminals in Mexico supposedly get machine guns from the United States. A father’s desire to protect his family only leads to tragedy when his daughter gets into the gun safe and uses the weapon in a mass public shooting. And guns in the home pose a danger for children. Gun registration is necessary for solving crime.

NBC isn’t to be left out, showing a woman who tried but failed to use a gun to protect herself. Instead, her gun was taken from her and used to kill a police officer. The lesson is that owning a gun will only bring you grief.

Criminal Rings in China Made Fake Covid-19 Vaccines, Some Sent to Foreign Countries

Chinese authorities recently announced a crackdown on criminal rings involved in making fake COVID-19 vaccines, and revealed that some of the products were distributed to other countries.

Arrested suspects were accused of gaining illicit profits totaling around 18 million yuan (about $2.78 million).

As of Feb. 10, twenty-one vaccine-related cases were being investigated across the country, with 70 suspects arrested, according to a Feb. 15 report by Chinese state media Xinhua.

In the early stages of China’s vaccine rollout, the report said, suspects made huge profits through manufacturing fake vaccines, selling and reselling them at high prices, and inoculating groups without authorization

Texas has been in the news this week because the state experienced a severe cold snap. When the wind turbines that power 25 percent of the Texas electricity froze, the wind power generating capacity was cut by half.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said, “We are dealing with higher-than-normal generation outages due to frozen wind turbines and limited natural gas supplies available to generating units.” The ERCOT called for rolling outages because the frozen turbines strained the grid so much.
