We've driven from TX to Maine - 19 states, 10 days, great stops and flew home. Absolutely glorious. We were fkn in Charlottesville the night before the riot/'the big lie'.
The tour guide showed us the University of Virginia campus through the trees on Ole TJ's property (strategic view he built btw) and told us that he specifically said he could not reconcile the solution for slavery and it would be a problem for generations to come.
I still can't believe how the incident became some egregious event from the Trump presidency 12 hours after we left the site.
