2 killed in Alabama military plane crash

A military plane crashed in Alabama on Friday evening, killing two people on board.

The crash happened in a wooded area adjacent to Montgomery Regional Airport, according to Marshall Taggart, the executive director there.

“There were two souls on board a military training jet and the two souls expired, Taggart told the Post of the crash.

The airport handles both commercial and military aircrafts, according to its website; Taggart said commercial airline operations were not affected.

Airport officials received notification of the accident at 5:05 p.m. Central time, Taggart said.

The accident is not in the jurisdiction of the National Transportation Safety Board, because it was a military aircraft on a military mission, NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson told The Post.

Reports that NTSB officials were en route to the accident scene were inaccurate, Knudson added.

Military officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Trooper who responded to Sandy Hook massacre busted for second DUI

A veteran Connecticut state trooper who responded to the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre has been charged with his second DUI in less than three years, police said.

Trooper Kenneth Dillon, of West Hartford, was busted by cops in Canton for a two-car crash while off-duty near the intersection of Routes 44 and 179 on Feb. 2, the Hartford Courant reported Thursday.Dillon was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and carrying a firearm while under the influence. He also received a citation for a traffic light violation, police said.

The off-duty trooper was reportedly among the scores of law enforcement officers who responded to the December 2012 shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, where crazed gunman Adam Lanza slaughtered 20 children and six teachers. The 20-year-old former student took his own life with a gunshot to the head as cops closed in.

Dillon, who was driving his own vehicle at the time, was the only person hurt in the crash, Canton Police Chief Christopher Arciero told the Courant.

Retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer And Former Mayor Of Brooksville Charged With Child Exploitation Offenses

Tampa, Florida – Kevin Hohn (65, Brooksville) has been arrested and charged by federal criminal complaint with possession and distribution of images depicting the sexual abuse of children. If convicted, he faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 5 years, and up to 20 years, in federal prison, and a potential life term of supervised release.

According to the criminal complaint, in September and December 2020, investigators identified a certain internet protocol address as having distributed images and a video depicting child pornography. Further investigation traced the IP address used to distribute the files to Hohn’s residence in Brooksville. Investigators determined that Hohn is a retired Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation, and former mayor of the City of Brooksville.

On February 19, 2021, investigators executed a search warrant at Hohn’s residence. Upon entry into the home, they found Hohn sitting in his office at a computer that was connected to an external hard drive. An examination of the external hard drive revealed more than 100 images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Within these images, investigators discovered images of apparent child pornography that had been covertly recorded inside of Hohn’s home.

A criminal complaint is only an allegation and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin C. Favorit.

This is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
