Long time wood burner here.
Where is it illegal to burn wood in your home?
Little propane heaters are good too. Here is the problem: people think they are going to heat their whole home with wood or propane. Woodstove will heat one, maybe two rooms depending on size of house and that's eith all bedroom and bathroom doors shut. There will still be parts of the house that are cold. Fireplace will not even heat one room well. You need a woodstove to be able to control the airflow. We've even cooked on ours.
Takes a lot of wood. Anon has land so has access to down trees, etc. If a person was going to use wood and had to buy it, it wouldnt be cost effective. Propane would be the better option, but there again, a single propane unit will not heat the whole house.
Have a look at the woodstoves that burn the wood pellets. I hear they heat well and the temperature can actually be controlled.
