The evil ones ordered the burning and the fearful ones stoked the fires and at the end of the day they one and all (except for the victims of their sanctimonious lusts) went home to their roasts and their puddings and declared it "good" and that "God's will" had been satisfied.
Perhaps … but without knowing which "god" they were referring to, it's difficult to say if that was true or not.
And thus, the sane were silenced and the insane gained in power while those with nothing to lose found they had lost the little bit of humanity that had still belonged to them.
Nothing changes if nothing changes.
