In the decree Litteris Diei of 6 June 1992, the pontifical magisterium clarified that "it is illegal to teach and use notions about angels and archangels, their personal names and their particular functions, outside of what is directly reflected in Sacred Scripture ; consequently, any form of consecration to angels and any other practice other than the customs of official worship is prohibited. "
The custom of giving particular names to the Angels, except Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, which are contained in Scripture, should also be reproved.
