What a Drama, The sporting world was 'holding its breath' following Tiger Woods' serious crash

Sky News host Tim Gilbert said the whole sporting world was "holding its breath" after golfing great Tiger Woods suffered major injuries following a serious car crash in the US state of California.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department released a statement saying the vehicle sustained "major damage" after rolling over.
The 15-time major champion had to be cut from the wrecked SUV with the "jaws of life" by Los Angeles County firefighters, before being transported to a local hospital.
He was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.
Police are investigating what caused the accident.
"I think the whole world, the whole sporting world, was holding its breath as to see what happened," Mr Gilbert said.
"The latest news is that he is awake in hospital after surgery".

US Senate inquiry finds major security failures ahead of Capitol riots they failed to read an email

A Senate inquiry into the January 6 Capitol Hill riots has revealed major communication failures between top security bodies occurred prior to the incident.
US Police, the House of Representatives and Senate leaders were involved in the hearing which is investigating possible breakdowns in intelligence gathering and security preparations in the lead-up to the riots.
Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund told Senators he did not see an FBI warning of potential violence on the eve of the riots and the Acting Washington DC Police Chief Robert Contee III said he received the information but it wasn't made clear enough.

Two elderly Australians given four times recommended COVID vaccine dose

Two elderly Queenslanders have been injected with four times the recommended dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at an aged care home.
A man, 88, is in hospital as a precaution and a woman, 94, also received the extra dosage at Holy Spirit Carseldine.
The doctor has been stood down from Australia’s coronavirus vaccine rollout program after giving the two patients the incorrect dose.
Health Minister Greg Hunt announced the error in a press conference on Tuesday morning.
“Basically a doctor gave an incorrect dose to two patients yesterday,” he said.
Mr Hunt added he decided to address the issue upfront to show the government’s safeguards were working effectively.
“Indeed I’ve made the decision that we should address this upfront to show that the safeguards that were put in place did actually work,” he said.
“There was an initial error, there’s no getting around that, but a series of different actions, three safeguards immediately kicked into place.
“Firstly, the nurse on scene responded. Secondly, the company responded and thirdly, the health care agencies, the cooperation between the commonwealth and Queensland responded.”

Nuclear submarines could solve one of Australia’s ‘great strategic challenges’

Nuclear submarines do have the capability to answer one of Australia’s “great strategic challenges” but there are a lot of impediments.
Retired Rear Admiral and Naval historian James Goldrick told Sky News while nuclear submarines have the ability to “go much faster for much longer” than diesel electric subs, which solves Australia’s “tyranny of distance,” there are two major roadblocks.
Despite arguments which suggest a potential for a nuclear submarine program in collaboration with other countries including France, it would be “very expensive,” he said.
“Nuclear submarines cost a great deal more than diesel submarines”.
Rear Admiral Goldrick also said there was an issue in terms of “opportunity cost” when it comes to a nuclear submarine program in Australia.
“What could you do with the resources that your putting into nuclear boats that you could use to do other things for defence.”

Vaccine overdose 'should never have happened'

Queensland shadow health minister Ros Bates says the COVID-19 vaccine overdose administered to two recipients in Brisbane “should never have happened”.
“As a healthcare professional there are rules around giving medication, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a vaccine or another drug,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
Ms Bates said the doctor who administered “hadn’t even bothered to read the product information leaflet” but people should be confident with the vaccine rollout.
“People should be confident about this rollout because we need to make sure everyone gets vaccinated.”

The west is 'de-industrializing itself' against a 'big threat' like China

Sky News host Peta Credlin says "this isn't about climate change anymore" after a new report found China is currently constructing dozens of coal-fired power stations and has more than a hundred in the pre-construction phase.
New figures released by the Institute of Public Affairs found China emits more carbon every 16 days than Australia does in an entire year.
The Institute of Public Affairs’ Daniel Wild spoke to Sky News host Peta Credlin about the report.
The report also found Australia's carbon emissions per person declined by 15.4 per cent since 2004, compared to China's which has lifted by 83.5 per cent per person in the same time.
"Here's the most important stat, I reckon … China's currently constructing 92 coal-fired power stations, with a further 135 in the pre-construction phase," Ms. Credlin said.
"We can't even build one and the only time we do talk about coal-fired power, it's about closures, not new coal-fired power capacity.
"This isn't about climate change anymore, it's about the west de-industrializing itself against a big threat like China and that's the worry," she said.
