In the mid 80s, I belonged to a Constitutional study group that was spreading the word as best we could. Enough that a local TV station interviewed our best spokesman for 1.5 hrs. He did a great job, very pleasant, informative and succinct.
They hacked it up to make him look crazy. Then, in spite of there never have been a firearm discussed or displayed, and the fact that though religion was never discussed (but, we let the Christians in the group say a short prayer for our Republic in the beginning) we were labeled as a "Christian Militia" (really oldfags remember those days). Vilified to a point where no one wanted to admit they knew us.
So, we dug them. They were only pretending to be "local". Same old shit, different decade…
