Too many people would continue to sit around doing nothing while waiting for Q to save them. Q offered plenty of assurance to prove you haven't been abandoned, but you're still going to have to figure out how to walk on your own two legs when nobody else is around. This has always been about teaching people basic life skills that were removed from society for enough generations to make us dependent on others for certain important things.

Sure, but nobody did it all on their own. Everyone, even the poor in our society, had to hire out certain ordinary tasks. Nobody can live what we consider an ordinary life in modern society without the cooperation of the greater society, which is strictly regulated by the government. The fact that life has ground to a halt for almost everyone in the absence of the services provided by strangers is proof of that.
