You sound like the anon I was responding to the other day.

The cold in the winter sucks, but it keeps most of the people away, and the prices down. Look into Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota. Land prices are considerably less than those other states where the weather is "nice".

Go to one of those states where there is a farming community. You can get work just about anywhere, no, or little experience. Just a change of mindset. You life will slow down from living in a populated area.

Did this 20 years ago, have never had a single regret, even when it is -25 for two weeks at a time. Just stay inside. Just like when I lived in one of the hot states, where you had to stay inside in the air conditioning. 72 degrees, sun shining, beautiful day here. Garden is in full grow mode.

I think of this conversation as part of the Great Awakening.

I live in a rural area that was homesteaded between 1900 and 1940.

I would love to see some of the federal lands, and the state lands turned over for this purpose again. True freedom.

Even if everything we are fighting for happens, I will never return to living in a city with my neighbors 8 feet from me.

I need no permits to build on my own land.

If you build a structure that you want to sell in the future as a house, you will need permits for it. You can do it all yourself, just have to be built to code.

In my area, you must have at least 20 acres to install a septic system. This is to keep the spacing between houses larger.

Horses are a huge waste of money. If you were going to use it to do any farming, an old used tractor will cost a fraction of what it costs to maintain work horses, and the tractor is faster, stronger, and not as temperamental.

Milk cows are a pain. You have to milk it twice a day. Everyday.

Cows take two years to grow to butcher weight. Pigs take about 4 months, chickens the same, Takes 4-5 months for a chicken to start laying eggs, then you get one approx. every 25 hours. When they stop laying, you eat them.
