White House Falsely Claims US Does Not Sanction World Leaders In Response to Criticism Over MbS

The US has sanctioned eight heads of state in previous three administrations

In defending the US decision not to take action against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki falsely claimed that the US does not sanction foreign heads of state.

Psaki made the claim in an interview with CNN on Sunday when explaining why MbS was left out of a list of Saudis sanctioned for the Khashoggi killing. The sanctions were implemented after a newly released US intelligence report said the crown prince ordered the murder.

“Historically, and even in recent history, Democratic and Republican administrations, there have not been sanctions put in place for the leaders of foreign governments where we have diplomatic relations — and even where we don’t have diplomatic relations,” she said.

A CNN fact-check on Psaki’s comments found that the previous three US administrations had sanctioned eight world leaders. President Trump slapped sanctions on Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The administration of Barack Obama sanctioned North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and then-Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. President George W. Bush imposed sanctions on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and former Myanmar leader Than Shwe.

Psaki slightly walked back the false claim at a press briefing on Monday. She said the US “has not typically sanctioned government leaders of countries where we have diplomatic relations.” Including the caveat “not typically” makes the statement not an outright lie, but it is still misleading.

As far as not sanctioning countries the US has “diplomatic relations” with, of the eight leaders listed above, the US only had no diplomatic relations with Iran and North Korea when sanctions were imposed. The US cut diplomatic ties with Libya as it implemented the sanctions on Gadhafi.

Besides the false claim, Psaki’s comments don’t line up with the logic she used in earlier remarks. While MbS is the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, his father, King Salman, is still technically the head of state. At a press briefing on February 16th, Psaki recognized that fact.

Psaki said reporters had asked her whether or not Biden would speak with MbS, but she insisted that King Salman was the appropriate contact for the president. “The President’s counterpart is King Salman, and I expect that, in appropriate time, he would have a conversation with him,” she said. President Biden ultimately spoke with King Salman on February 25th.

Alleged Sex Pest Andrew Cuomo Hires Lawyer Who Defended Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen

Embattled governor Andrew Cuomo (D., N.Y.) has retained the services of a high-powered criminal defense attorney who defended Harvey Weinstein and Woody Allen against allegations of sexual assault.

Elkan Abramowitz, a former federal prosecutor with close ties to Manhattan district attorney Cy Vance, will serve as legal counsel to the governor and his top aides, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

New York attorney general Letitia James is investigating the Cuomo administration on several fronts. Three women have now accused the governor of sexual harassment. Allegations include unwanted kissing and touching, as well as inappropriate or suggestive comments, such as asking a 25-year-old female subordinate if she "had ever been with an older man" while the pair were alone in his office.

"To be clear I never inappropriately touched anybody and I never propositioned anybody and I never intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable, but these are allegations that New Yorkers deserve answers to," Cuomo said in a statement (sort of) apologizing for his past behavior, which he described as "being playful and mak[ing] jokes that I think are funny."

Cuomo, who asked constituents to await the findings of an independent investigation "before making any judgment," finally referred the matter to James's office on Sunday after state lawmakers rejected his initial proposal to have a former federal judge investigate the allegations on his behalf.

James is also investigating the Cuomo administration's handling of the state's nursing homes during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The attorney general's office recently released a report indicating the Cuomo administration had significantly undercounted the number of COVID-related deaths in nursing homes. The administration quickly updated the figures, increasing the nursing home death toll by more than 40 percent.

Abramowitz, who represented Cuomo during a federal investigation into the governor's decision to prematurely dismantle an anti-corruption panel he created in 2013, will have his work cut out for him. The lawyer has certainly made a name for himself as the go-to legal counsel for celebrity sex pests.

Mystery deepens over Biden Interior nominee's finances as she files third amended ethics report

Deb Haaland erases $40k in income from 2018, now claims she earned less than $4,000 in the year she ran for Congress.

Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.), President Biden's nominee to run the Interior Department, has now offered a third account to House ethics officials about how much she earned the year she first won her congressional seat.

As her cabinet nomination wound its way through the Senate confirmation process, Haaland late last week quietly filed a second amendment to her legally required congressional financial disclosure report, eliminating more than $40,000 in income she previously claimed she earned in 2018.

The new report, dated Thursday, reports her total earnings in 2018 were only $4,000, even as she traveled the country and New Mexico campaigning for Congress and carried a student loan debt of between $15,000 and $50,000 that dates to 2006.

To put that into perspective, the federal poverty level for a single-person household in 2018 was $12,140, or about three times the amount she now claims she lived on.

The new report also changes the sources of the income she claimed she received in 2018, dropping entirely one source of salary she claimed from a tribal casino, drastically reducing another and adding a previously undeclared retirement account.

The changes are drawing attention on Capitol Hill, where senators have posed questions behind closed doors to Haaland, who if confirmed would be the first Native American cabinet member in American history.

The changes, according to congressional sources, have raised two questions:

  1. How did Haaland live on just $4,000 for an entire a year in which she ran for Congress, which involved traveling to hotels and events?

  1. Did Haaland accurately account for her income on her federal and state tax returns, given that she has given three separate accountings for her income on her congressional ethics report for 2018? Ordinarily, candidates consult their tax returns when filling out the forms.

Felicia Salazar, a spokeswoman for the congresswoman, did not return email and phone messages Monday seeking comment.

When Haaland filed her first financial disclosure report as a member of Congress on May 13, 2019, she reported her only source of income in 2018 was $30,550 as an independent contractor for her tribe's Laguna Development Corp. She also listed no liabilities on the form.

3 days after Pfizer vaccine, Japanese woman dies from brain hemorrhage

"It may be a coincidental case, but there is a need to gather more information and make an assessment in upcoming working groups."

A Japanese a woman in her 60s died from a brain hemorrhage three days after receiving a Pfizer coronavirus vaccination, the health ministry said on Tuesday, adding that there may not be a link between the two.

The woman was vaccinated on Friday and is suspected to have suffered a brain hemorrhage three days later, on Monday, it said. It was Japan's first reported death following a vaccination.

"The brain hemorrhage that is suspected as a cause is relatively common among people from their 40s to their 60s, and at this time, based on examples overseas, there does not seem to be a link between brain hemorrhages and the coronavirus vaccine," the ministry quoted Tomohiro Morio, a doctor advising the government, as saying.

"It may be a coincidental case, but there is a need to gather more information and make an assessment in upcoming working groups."

Pfizer officials in Japan were not immediately available for comment. Pfizer said in November the efficacy of its vaccine was consistent across age and ethnic groups, and that there were no major side effects, a sign that the immunization could be employed broadly around the world.

Global health authorities have praised the fast development of safe and effective COVID vaccines, but have warned people with serious underlying health conditions to take medical advice first.

Japan became the last member of the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations to begin its vaccination drive, on Feb. 17.

It has so far received three shipments of vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.

Japan officially approved Pfizer's vaccine last month, the first such approval in the country as it steps up efforts to tame infections in the run-up to the Summer Olympics.

Kiev Continues Censoring Opposition, As Eastern Ukraine Escalation Nears Critical Mass

In Ukraine, the consolidation of power by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his “Servant of the people” party continues.

The Security Service of Ukraine – the SBU – said that it revealed the introduction of “knowingly false” data during the re-registration of the Sharia Party. The SBU applied to the Kiev city prosecutor’s office with requests for international legal assistance to conduct investigative actions in other countries in the case of party leader Anatoly Shariy (he lives in Spain).

This was announced on March 1st, by the press center of the special service.

“In the course of the pre-trial investigation, the fact of making deliberately false information during the re-registration of the Party of Shariy was revealed. This information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (” forgery of documents, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of forged documents, seals, stamps “). These materials are also sent to the Kiev city prosecutor’s office for further legal response,” the statement said.

Anatoly Shariy himself has already reacted to the statement of the SBU.

“The nasty likeness of the president was told to shove another criminal case into the criminal case – we have already re-registered the party, forging documents. Let’s start working with European partners as soon as possible. Let’s not torment the pigs,” Shariy commented on his Telegram channel.

Earlier, on February 16, the SBU announced suspicion on two articles (high treason and violation of the equality of citizens) to the leader of the Sharia Party Anatoly Shariy. He was twice summoned to participate in interrogation as a suspect, after which he was put on the all-Ukrainian wanted list. Instead of Shariy, his lawyer Valentin Rybin came to the SBU, who explained his client’s failure to appear by the fact that he had received refugee status.

On February 25th, Ukrainian law enforcement officers put Sharia on the wanted list. Shariy himself believes that the Ukrainian authorities are persecuting him illegally, and all the cases brought against him are political persecution.

Ukrainian opposition is being actively persecuted. Alongside the Party of Shariy, the “Opposition Platform – For Life!” is also being targeted, with its TV channels being shut down and its leadership being sanctioned by the Ukrainian government.

Grassley says not including far-left extremism in Senate probe 'intellectually dishonest'

"We must examine the force of domestic extremism that span the ideological spectrum," Grassley said.

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley said Tuesday that not including the far-left groups in Congress's probe into extremism and domestic terrorism would be "intellectually dishonest."

The Iowa made the statement during FBI Directory Chris Wray’s testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the bureau’s knowledge about the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot.

"We must examine the force of domestic extremism that span the ideological spectrum," Grassley said. adding. "But a narrow view of these matters, would be intellectually dishonest."

Grassley’s comments followed Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin saying that far-left extremism shouldn't be put into the same category as the far-right extremism that was on display during the Jan. 6 riot.

"I joined my Republican colleagues, unequivocally in condemning left-wing violence,” Durbin said. "But let's stop pretending that the threat of Antifa is equivalent to the white supremacist threat."

Durbin, of Indiana, argued that riots led by left-wing extremist groups in summer 2020 are not the same as the riots at the Capitol in January.

Said Grassley: "Yes, white supremacy movements may be considered the most dangerous at a given time, but somehow it wasn't last summer, or won't be when the next foreign attack is attempted. We must call extremism, where wherever it happens across the board, left or right."

FBI Cannot ‘Disclose the Cause of Death’ of Officer Brian Sicknick: Director Wray

The FBI “cannot disclose the cause of death” of U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, after The New York Times and other news outlets either retracted or updated reports claiming he was killed by being hit with a fire extinguisher during the Capitol riots on Jan. 6.

FBI Director Christopher Wray responded to a question from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) during a Senate hearing on Tuesday about whether the agency has determined Sicknick’s cause of death. Grassley noted “conflicting reports” about his cause of death and whether there is a homicide investigation.

“There is an ongoing investigation into his death,” Wray said, adding that “I certainly understand … and appreciate the keen interest in what happened to him.”

But despite Wray’s testimony, it’s still unclear whether the FBI does not know Sicknick’s cause of death or whether the agency simply will not disclose it.

Wray then stated that “the investigation is ongoing … that means we can’t disclose the cause of death.” When asked again by Grassley about whether the FBI knows his cause of death, Wray said, “I didn’t say that,” and again repeated that the FBI can’t disclose the cause of death.

Sicknick’s death was invoked a number of times by lawmakers in Congress during former President Donald Trump’s impeachment and trial as they tried to portray the riots as an insurrection that resulted in the loss of lives, repeating claims from The New York Times that Sicknick was beaten by a pro-Trump supporter during the riots. The New York Times later updated its story to say “new information has emerged regarding the death of the Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick that questions the initial cause of his death provided by officials close to the Capitol Police.”

That narrative also suffered a major setback last week when Sicknick’s mother, Gladys, told the Daily Mail that her son wasn’t hit on the head.

“He wasn’t hit on the head, no. We think he had a stroke, but we don’t know anything for sure,” Gladys Sicknick told the outlet in an exclusive interview on Feb. 22. “We’d love to know what happened,” she said.

Sicknick’s brother also appeared to dispute the reports about his death in early January. “[Officer Sicknick] texted me last night and said, ‘I got pepper-sprayed twice,’ and he was in good shape,” Ken Sicknick said to news outlets last month, appearing to dispute key details of the original NY Times report.

Germany Arrests Ten in Mega Operation Against Neo-Nazi Criminal Network

German police arrested eight people aged between 24 and 55 and searched dozens of premises throughout the country as part of a mega operation that targeted right-wing groups allegedly involved in drug and arms trafficking and money laundering.

More than 500 officers took part in the crackdown on a neo-Nazi network in the central states of Thuringia and Hessen and the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, police in Thuringia said in a statement. Local media later reported the number of arrested suspects rose to ten.

Authorities seized long weapons, large amounts of cash and right-wing symbols in one of the raided premises the statement referred to as “The yellow house.” According to a 2016 report from the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the property has for years served as a meeting place for supporters of the most dangerous and influential neo-Nazi groups in Thuringia.

Police also seized a limousine and narcotics, including crystal meth and heroin.

The suspects are alleged members of neo-Nazi brotherhoods Turonen and Garde 20, German media outlet MDR reported. The local broadcaster added that the organization has been involved in large-scale drug trafficking in Thuringia for years and has reportedly been laundering the proceeds from its criminal deeds.

Thuringia's Interior Minister Georg Maier, known for fighting extremist groups, told local media that the operation is “a hard blow” to right-wing networks in the region.

"The case shows that we have to take a close look at the connections between right-wing extremism and organized crime," Maier told Spiegel.

The operation stems from a secret wiretapping operation by the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The agency has been monitoring key stakeholders of both of these groups for two years, MDR reported.

Usually dressed in black and exhibiting silver badges on their jackets, Turons first appeared publicly around 2014 and initially promoted themselves as event managers, having contributed to the organization of dozens of neo-Nazi concerts, Germany’s Suddeutsche Zeitung reported.

One of their signature concerts includes a festival-like event advertised under the name “Rock against Foreign Infiltration”.

Michigan GOP demands state AG probe Whitmer's 'secret deal' with former top health official

Gordon and Whitmer's office reportedly agreed to a $155,506 payout following Gordon's abrupt resignation

The Michigan Republican Party has called on the state’s attorney general to investigate a reported separation deal between Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her former state health department director.

The Michigan GOP issued a statement Tuesday calling for Whitmer, a Democrat, and her former Department of Health Director Robert Gordon "to release all information" surrounding a "secret deal" between the pair after Gordon’s "abrupt" departure from his post.

Gordon and Whitmer's office reportedly agreed to a $155,506 payout following Gordon's abrupt resignation in January, with the details of his departure remaining confidential.

Republicans want Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office to "immediately open up an investigation" into the deal.

They also called on the state legislature to "issue subpoenas and hold hearings to answer a very simple question — Why is Gov. Whitmer buying the silence of a former government employee, the state’s top public health official, in the middle of a global pandemic?"

State Sen. Jim Runestad, a Republican, said the "confidentiality agreement just adds another wrinkle to the problem."

"The administration has not been forthcoming with the data or the information surrounding their COVID policies," Runestad continued. "The continued secrecy is troubling, and even more reason to investigate the Whitmer administration’s COVID policies."

Ted Goodman, communications director for the Michigan Republican Party, told Fox News that the deal "doesn’t pass the smell test and Michiganders deserve answers."

Whitmer’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

The demands for an investigation into the governor’s undisclosed deal isn’t the only one being called for.

Republican lawmakers are also demanding an investigation into Whitmer's handling of nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic, accusing the governor of withholding crucia data from the public.

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Charlie LeDuff announced on Monday that he is "preparing a lawsuit" against Whitmer for the release of state coronavirus nursing home death data.

"The public has a right to know. Above all, the public has a need to know. We shut down the entire economy, we interrupted our children's lives, all in the name of protecting the most vulnerable. We now know this was the institutionalized elderly. If we could not protect them, at the very least we deserve an explanation from Madam Governor," LeDuff told Fox News in an email on Monday.

"If there's something more to it than that, let's say gross incompetence or gross negligence or gross press conferences designed to cover the facts, then she needs to answer for it. As I've always said, the power lies with the people, not the political parties," he added.

Business Insider: "Everything Is About To Get More Expensive. This Is Good"

With America already experiencing the beginnings of an inflation wave that may spiral out of control as a result of trillions in money printing the media is trying to get ahead of the story by claiming that everything becoming more expensive "is good."

From Business Insider, "Everything is about to get more expensive. It's a crucial next step for the US economic recovery.":

- The US economy is headed for a rebound, but it'll make things more expensive for Americans.

- Experts say the economy won't overheat, but more demand for things like homes and gas will mean higher prices.

- This is good; inflation like this is a sign of a return to normal and a healthy economic recovery.

Last month, the New York Times told us "critical thinking" is bad, now Business Insider is telling us inflation "is good."

"Analysts assumed prices would quickly fall back to earth [after surging in August 2020]," Forbes reported Sunday. "It didn't happen."

"The NAHB calculates current lumber prices are adding $24,000 to the price tag of a typical new single-family home."

"What exactly is going on? Well, when states issued lockdowns in the spring of 2020, sawmills across the nation closed. Cue a falling lumber supply. At the same time Americans quarantining at home realized it was a great time to undergo home renovations or do-it-yourself projects. Cue a rising demand for timber."

Despite the price surge, there's no need to worry. It's good that prices are going crazy and when this inflation wave starts triggering further shortages and panic buying of other products that's even better because it's a sign our economy is "returning to normal"!

Kayleigh McEnany Joins Fox News

On Tuesday, Fox News host Harris Faulkner announced that former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has joined Fox News.

“It is my distinct pleasure today to welcome Kayleigh McEnany to the Fox family. We will be seeing much more of her in the future,” Faulkner said. In the interview, McEnany spoke about joining the White House press team a few months after giving birth to her daughter.

McEnany offered full-throated defenses of President Donald Trump’s policies as he faced relentless demonization from the legacy media. The legacy media also attacked McEnany a great deal, twisting her words on school reopening. McEnany even got locked out of her Twitter account for sharing The New York Post‘s Hunter Biden bombshell last year.

When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Triggered) falsely accused McEnany of belittling her by leaving out AOC’s title, McEnany set her straight. As Stephen Kruiser said, watching McEnany set the legacy media straight was a “never-ending delight.”

In her first post-White House interview, McEnany gave Faulkner her personal story of the January 6 Capitol riot. She told Faulkner that she had expected a peaceful protest but watched in shock as some protesters broke away and violently attacked the U.S. Capitol.

“I think at the beginning of the day, before everyone went to the rally, everyone was expecting peace,” McEnany recalled. “We had been to hundreds of rallies — I’ve probably been to hundreds at this point, certainly many dozens — and they were nothing but peaceful events, and we expected that day to be the same.”

“And then as those events transpired, it was disbelief, shock, somber, sad, horrified by the violence, and it was a very hard, difficult day in the White House, there is no doubt,” she said.

Trump supporters who have grown anxious about a perceived shift in Fox News’ coverage will take reassurance from the network’s decision to hire McEnany, whose fiery defenses of Trump’s agenda made conservatives proud.

Nike US Head Resigns Following Reports About Son's Sneaker Reselling Business

Nike's North America head stepped down after a report revealed her ties with a reselling business

Her son used a credit card in her name to purchase $132,000 of limited-edition sneakers

Ann Herbert worked with Nike for 25 years

Nike Inc. on Monday announced that the vice president and general manager of its North America division is departing the company days after a report revealed her ties to a sneaker resale business.

Ann Hebert, who rose up the ranks at Nike to become its head of North America, is leaving the global company after a Bloomberg report revealed that her son, Joe Hebert, owns a resale business and has used her credit card to purchase sneakers.

Her abrupt exit marks the end of her 25-year tenure at the sneaker and apparel juggernaut. Nike said it would likely announce a new North American division head soon.

Hebert's departure comes just a week after Bloomberg Businessweek published an article about Hebert's 19-year-old son Joe. The report revealed that he had used his mother's credit card to purchase at least $132,000 worth of limited-edition shoes and sell them for more money through his resale business, West Coast Streetwear.

During an interview with the New York-based publication, Joe acknowledged that Ann Hebert is his mother. However, he said she has never offered him inside information about Nike.

“When I asked Hebert about the connection later that year, he acknowledged that Ann was his mother and said that, while she’d inspired him as a businessperson, she was so high up at Nike as to be removed from what he does, and that he’d never received inside information such as discount codes from her,” Bloomber Business' Joshua Hunt wrote in the article.

A Nike spokeswoman later revealed that Ann disclosed information about West Coast Streetwear to Nike in 2018.

The Bloomberg Business piece also revealed that Joe was buying products from other retailers, including Adidas items, Supreme T-shirts and Sony’s PlayStation 5 console, and flipping them for profit.

“We botted Walmart and Target pretty hard,” he told Bloomberg, referring to the PS5 consoles. “I ended up with 24 of them and made between $300 and $500 on each one.”

Ann Hebert began working with Nike in 1995. She held various sales roles before being promoted to more prominent positions, including head of Nike’s Latin American divisions. She became vice president and general manager of Nike’s North America business in June 2020.
