Governor Abbott Announces All Businesses in Texas Can Reopen 100%, Ends Statewide Mask Mandate

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) on Tuesday announced all businesses in the state can reopen 100% and ended the statewide mask mandate.

It’s about time.

“So today, I’m issuing a new executive order that rescinds most of the earlier executive orders,” Abbott said. “Effective next Wednesday, all businesses of any type are allowed to open 100%….also, I am ending the statewide mask mandate,” Abbott said from Lubbock.

“Under no circumstance can someone be punished for not wearing a mask,” he said.

“Today’s announcement ensures Texans can tap into their own self reliance to seize the opportunities our state has to offer,” said Abbott as he ended his presser. “God bless the State of Texas.”

Migrant Smugglers Arrested In Romania

Romanian Police uncovered and dismantled Monday a suspected human smuggling organization believed to have tried to smuggle 30 illegal migrants further into the EU from Romania, according to a Europol press release.

The investigation led to the arrest of seven people who allegedly smuggled Indian nationals in lorry containers and vans from Romania into countries like Germany, Italy, and Portugal for around 5000-6000 euro (US$6000-$7200) per person.

A video released with the press statement shows police using a battering ram to break down the door of what appears to be a storage facility. Officers enter a room filled with barrels and wooden pallets with people secreted away in the back of the unit with blankets and pillows.

This alleged smuggling method follows a larger trend toward using sealed containers and vans in human smuggling according to an analysis by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime. These methods have proven more deadly for irregular migrants.

The investigation began over a year ago in September 2019 when authorities were notified about a suspected criminal organization of Indian and Romanian nationals with branches in several Eastern European countries facilitating the illegal crossing of borders from within Romania.

The suspected leaders of the gang were arrested in November of 2020 and January of 2021.

Monday’s action had extensive multinational support from Austria, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Serbia along with organizations like Europol, the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism, the General Inspectorate of the Border Police and Directorate for Preventing and Combating Illegal Migration and Cross-Border Crime.

This time, it is climate change rather than God's wrath at the unbridled licentiousness of humanity to blame. According to Pope Francis, humanity should pay more attention to global warming, corruption, and injustice.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has warned mankind about a looming calamity, namely the second "great flood".

The 84-year-old pontiff said that unlike the previous Biblical flood, which was unleashed by God to bring justice and to "cleanse", the second flood would be caused by climate change.

Pope Francis also urged world leaders to put more effort into fighting global warming and injustice, according to an excerpt from a new book of conversations with the Holy Father, called Of Vice and Virtues by Don Marco Pozza.

Having ruminated on the biblical flood, Pope Francis calls on humanity to consider a rise in temperatures and the melting of glaciers as a serious threat, before it is too late, the excerpt read. Unless people are eager to change their present stance on the matter, God will take the lead and "clean up" the world of corruption and injustice, the Argentine Jesuit argues.

Such things as prudence, sympathy and empathy should not be forgotten when dealing with the world’s problems, he added.

Rape culture in Australian schools: New Chanel Contos website exposes hundreds of testimonies from sexual assault victims

Parents are pulling their kids out of schools as an explosive new website names hundreds of institutions where students say there’s a disturbing problem.

Thousands of students from across every part of Australia have spoken out about a chilling culture of normalised rape and sexual assault in our schools – as horrified parents begin pulling their children out and pressure grows for systemic change.

Since being overwhelmed by the response to her petition – calling for earlier and more holistic sexual education lessons – Sydneysider Chanel Contos has received more than 4000 testimonies from students in South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland, the ACT and NSW.

Overnight, she launched a website where the disturbing accounts are beginning to be made public for the first time.

There are already more than 1500 testimonies on the website – and many of them bear eerie similarities to the vile stories that emerged from Sydney schools shortly after the petition first went live.

In many of the freshly-uploaded accounts, students say they were raped while unconscious at parties or woke up to being touched by someone inappropriately.

MELBOURNE SCHOOLS MENTIONED

Many of the new testimonies come from Melbourne schools, where students say there is a similar culture to the chauvinistic club-like mentality reported in some Sydney all-boys schools in the initial testimonies.

One former student at Carey Grammar School said she was 16 and at a party when she smoked her first joint and passed out on a bed.

“I thought I’d be safe as the host went to my school,” she said, recounting the incident in 2012. “Instead he came in and got into bed with me.”

She said the boy then started digitally penetrating her, and wouldn’t stop even though she repeatedly asked him to.

She said a friend of the boy entered the room and “joined in” – before spreading rumours around the school about the victim’s body.

Australian government extends overseas travel ban by three months to June

Those hoping to finally embark on an overseas holiday have been delivered another blow, with Australia’s travel ban to continue until at least June.

Australia’s international borders will remain shut after the Federal government extended the emergency travel ban through to mid-June.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt revealed the human biosecurity emergency period had been extended “by an additional three months,” from March 17 to June 17 due to the “unacceptable risk” of COVID outbreaks in other countries.

The overseas travel ban was first brought in on March 17 2020 under the Biosecurity Act 2015, as the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off around the world.

It was set to expire in December but was extended for three months, and has been once again.

“The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee has advised the Australian Government the COVID-19 situation overseas continues to pose an unacceptable public health risk to Australia, including the emergence of more highly transmissible variants,” Mr Hunt said.

“The extension of the emergency period for a further three months is about mitigating that risk for everyone’s health and safety.”
