DOD IG report says Jackson as Obama's physician 'bullied' subordinates

The Pentagon watchdog's investigation into Jackson's behavior in the White House Medical Unit stemmed from a referral from the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee in 2018, when Jackson was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The allegations about Jackson's inappropriate conduct ultimately led Trump to withdraw Jackson's nomination. He retired from the Navy in 2019, before winning a seat in Congress in 2020.

In a statement to ABC News, Jackson, R-Texas, denied the findings of the watchdog report, calling it a "political hit job" against him "because I have refused to turn my back on President Trump."

Texas power grid CEO fired after deadly February blackouts

Texas' power grid manager was fired Wednesday amid growing calls for his ouster following February's deadly blackouts that left millions of people without electricity and heat for days in subfreezing temperatures.

Bill Magness, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, becomes the second senior official to depart in the wake of one of the worst blackouts in U.S. history. The state's top utility regulator resigned Monday.

Magness was given a two-month termination notice by ERCOT's board in a meeting Wednesday night. The move came as the grid operator is now under investigation by the House Oversight Committee.

"During this transition period, Bill will continue to serve as President and CEO and work with state leaders and regulators on potential reforms to ERCOT," the organization said in a statement.

Kissinger suggests Biden not abandon Trump's 'brilliant' Middle East policy

"I think that one of the great successes of the previous administration was … they had achieved two things in the Middle East," Kissinger said Tuesday in a speech. "One, to separate the Palestinian problem from all of the other problems so that it did not become a veto over everything else.

"Secondly, of lining up the Sunni states in actual or potential combination against the Shiite states, which is Iran, that was developing a capacity to threaten them," he continued.

"I think that this was a brilliant concept," Kissinger also said. "We were just at the beginning of it."

Kissinger gave a speech about his role in the transition from the Johnson to the Nixon administration at the Nixon Seminar, a monthly talk about conservative foreign policy.

He also said: "So, in the current situation, it is important that we don’t slip into diluting this pattern that has been created and which … at an appropriate moment can even lead to discussions with Iran. We should not give up the pressures that exist on Iran until we know where they are heading."

Kissinger continued" "And I think that is something that we need to consider carefully with current period. If we break out the Iranian issue from the overall Middle Eastern issue, we run the risk of losing the two achievements namely of separating the Palestinian issue, which removes it as a veto over everything else and the Sunni cooperation with Israel, which is unique in its openness. So, that is how I would handle that."

Police request 60-day extension of Guard at US Capitol

The potential plot is tied to the far-right conspiracy theory promoted by QAnon supporters that former President Donald Trump will rise again to power on March 4, the original presidential inauguration day.

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., said she learned that the request for a 60-day extension was made in the last 36 hours, and that the Guard is now seeking volunteers from states around the country to fill the need.

Defense officials confirmed that the request is under review at the Pentagon, and that the Guard has started checking states for availability of their troops, in an effort to be prepared if final Defense Department approval is given. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The more than 5,000 Guard members currently in Washington, D.C., are all slated to go home on March 12, ending the mission.

Slotkin said some members of Congress have been concerned about whether there is a solid plan to provide security for members and staff going forward.
