Used to wake up bright and early
For an early birds' eye view
Of the straight lines and the circles
That your city fathers drew,
But at night down by the harbor
I would drink Barbados rum
And the light upon the water
Made the shape of things to come
There are dreamboats in the offing
There are brigantines and dhows
There are junks and old slave traders
There are submarines and scows
There are dreamboats in the offing
And the dear knows where they've been
But from where I do my drinking
It looks like they're putting in.
