Artificial intelligence smart enough to fool Captcha security check

Computer scientists have developed artificial intelligence that can outsmart the Captcha website security check system.

Captcha challenges people to prove they are human by recognising combinations of letters and numbers that machines would struggle to complete correctly.

Researchers developed an algorithm that imitates how the human brain responds to these visual clues.

The neural network could identify letters and numbers from their shapes.

The research, conducted by Vicarious - a Californian artificial intelligence firm funded by Amazon founderJeff Bezos and Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg- is published in the journal Science.

Tommy Tuberville introduces anti-trans amendment to COVID relief bill, gets voted down

As the United States Senate attempts to pass a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill, former Auburn football coach and current Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville had one thing on his mind: anti-trans legislation.

Tuberville attempted to add an anti-trans amendment to the COVID-19 relief bill Saturday, but was voted down 49-50. If passed, the amendment would have prohibited funding to educational institutions that allowed trans women to compete in women's athletics.

Washington Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat, took Tuberville to task over the amendment, asking him to "have a little bit of heart and compassion in this world for someone who doesn't look or live exactly like you.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin called the amendment an attack on transgender kids and questioned why Tuberville would introduce an anti-trans amendment as part of a COVID relief bill that has been up for debate for over 20 hours.

The amendment was supported by Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, but voted down by Republican Alaska Senator Lisa Murowski.

Tommy Tuberville's time as senator hasn't gone well

Tuberville, who defeated Doug Jones in November, hasn't covered himself in glory so far during his political career. A few days after winning his election, Tuberville misidentified the three branches of the United States government. He also believed President Joe Biden's inauguration could have been pushed back due to COVID-19.

Prior to being elected, Tuberville spent over two decades as a college football head coach. He resigned from Cincinnati in 2016 after leading the team to a 4-8 record that season.

Slum Lord Nancy's slush fund…

San Francisco is dealing with its homeless epidemic by spending $16.1 million for 262 tents — an investment that breaks down to $190 a night or $61,000 per tent per year. The tents will be placed in empty lots around the city, creating what officials are calling “safe sleeping villages.” The city will also provide food and other services.

City leaders are under enormous pressure to address the city’s swelling homeless population, which has become more worrisome and visible amid the pandemic as traditional shelters have had to cut their capacity and other services have been disrupted. But several officials said Wednesday that the tent program — which is not eligible for federal reimbursement — is staggeringly expensive and must be re-examined, especially amid the $650 million budget deficit that San Francisco projects over the next two years.

The $16.1 million allocated for the safe sleeping program in the current budget is a fraction of the more than $300 million spent annually on homeless services. A 2018 ballot measure will probably raise an additional $250 million to $300 million per year.

tewart-Kahn noted that the city had to scramble to create other options for the homeless as indoor shelters were closing early in the pandemic. She said officials did not have time to do a more thorough contract bidding process, which may have lowered operating costs. The sites are also on empty lots around the city — including outside of City Hall and at a City College parking lot South of Market — which required water and electrical hookups, along with around-the-clock security

“It’s eye-popping, and we need to understand why that is,” San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, who proposed legislation last fall to create more shelter options like safe sleeping villages, said. “We have to find a way to have exits from the streets. But we need them to be more cost-effective than the safe sleeping program that the city has been running.”

Jennifer Friedenbach, executive director of the city’s Coalition on Homelessness, said the tents are a good option during the coronavirus pandemic because they help prevent spread and provide more privacy than a cot in a shelter.

“But we do not think that a tent is a permanent solution to homelessness,” Friedenbach said in the Chronicle report.

NO DEALS FOR MSM PUPPETS.

NO GO JOE…

MSNBC host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough says there's 'no doubt' that the GOP is 'unsavable'

In 1994, Joe Scarborough was elected to Congress as part of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich's Republican revolution, which saw the party make sweeping gains across the country.

During a Friday appearance on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher," the conservative-turned-independent MSNBC host of "Morning Joe" rebuked the party that he called home for decades.

Maher was blunt when questioning Scarborough about his political metamorphosis.

"Honestly, tell me about this," Maher asked. "You're an independent now. So, what does that say? To me, it says that you think the Republican Party is unsavable."

Scarborough, a frequent critic of former President Donald Trump, basically agreed with Maher.

"Unsavable - no doubt about it," replied Scarborough. "It can't be saved."

"I used to get attacked by liberals because I was a conservative; now, I'm getting attacked by people who voted for a fascist because I'm a conservative," he said of Trump. "You know, my friends and my family members, they all voted for him, and it's been hard for me to process it."

He added: "The only way I've been able to come to terms with it is they're not fascists, but they voted for an ignorant man who is a fascist. I don't understand why."

Scarborough then questioned the motivations of voters who continue to express support for the former president.

"I've seen focus groups over the past couple of days of Trump voters who still would support him," he said. "Who say things like, 'I like Donald Trump because of where he stands.' I can't even say it with a straight face - 'on the issues.' Now you tell me, what the f— does that mean? What issues? What issues does this guy share with conservatives?"

He added: "He undercut all of the allies that [former President Ronald] Reagan championed. He embraced Russia."

Scarborough then lit into Republican Sens. Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas, calling both men "seditionists" for what he said was their role in the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

Hawley and Cruz sought to challenge the Electoral College certification of President Joe Biden's 2020 victory, which was heavily criticized after insurrectionists breached the Capitol and five people were killed.

"Cruz and Hawley are seditionists," he argued. "They should be in jail. You can look at the federal statute for inciting sedition, and it seems to me it's what they did."
