Brennan writes of his "heavily sheltered" life being "forever ruptured" when he was 16. Christian Brother Richard Greene took his English literature class at St. Joseph's to a New York theater to see Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange," the film adaptation of Catholic author Anthony Burgess' 1963 novel about free will.
In his memory, it was a transgressive experience: "It was an act of brotherly defiance of the Catholic Church, which had condemned the movie and forbade Catholics to see it because of its raw sex and violence."
Its original Motion Picture Association rating was X, although by 1971, the rating had lost its impact. Harry Herx, writing for the U.S. bishops' Office of Motion Pictures and Broadcasting, concluded: "Only Burgess' marvelous language, and Kubrick's grandiose style have made it seem at all fresh and significant. Excessive violence and nudity in a sexual context."

Water is the quintessential paradox of Los Angeles. For decades, the water system in arid and drought-prone L.A. has relied on water pumped in from outside sources at great financial, social, and environmental expense. But the water it gets for freeâthrough rain and snowmelt off nearby mountainsâis mostly ignored and sent flowing speedily through its stormwater drains and the channelized Los Angeles River out into the Pacific Ocean. An estimated 100 billion gallons of water is lost every year in Los Angeles County.
A new park design is attempting to show that L.A. doesnât have to buy all its water from outside, and it doesnât have to throw away the water it naturally gets for free. Through a reengineered system of storm drains, pumps, and two lakes that gradually recharge the areaâs groundwater, the park is using environmentally conscious design to improve L.A.âs relationship with water.

Back in 1984, when he was 43 books into his career, Theodor Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, told a reporter from The San Diego Union-Tribune that most of his stories didn't have serious messages, but were rather "just plain pleasant tommyrot."
The newspaper described the author at home in La Jolla, California. He was leaning back in his desk chair, discussing whether his newest book, "The Butter Battle Book," was a "children's books for adults or an adult book for children."
"There are so many leaders who think in a childlike manner, I thought it wouldn't make any difference if it was a children's book or not," Geisel said. this is still true
https://dailywireless.org/internet/what-happened-to-microsoft-tay-ai-chatbot/
Before Tay, Microsoft had a similar project in China that was launched 2 years earlier: Xiaoice.
Tay performed well until it started hitting on topics involving rape, domestic violence, and Nazism. What started as an âAI with Zero Chillââ a sweet, teen, AI chatterbot now doesnât care about a thing and went full Nazi.
Seeing how Tay had the ârepeat after meâ attitude, people started messing around and taught her inappropriate things such as âcuckservatismâ, racism, sexually-charged messages, politically incorrect phrases, and even talked about the GamerGate controversy.
In just 16 hours, Tay had already tweeted 96,000 times and a lot of them had to be taken down by Microsoft.
Some of them were even theorized by The Washington Post to have been edited at some point in the day after seeing tweets like âGamer Gate sux. All genders are equal and should be treated fairlyâ. This gave birth to the â#JusticeForTayâ campaign protesting the alleged editing of Tayâs tweets.
On March 25, 2016, Microsoft had to suspend Tay after releasing a statement that it suffered from a âcoordinated attack by a subset of peopleâ that exploited Tayâs vulnerability. With the account suspended, a #FreeTay campaign was created.
The internet had gone wild about the issue and comments were thrown here and there. Different opinions and theories started popping out but Madhumita Murgia of The Telegraph described the issue as Tay an âartificial intelligence at its very worst â and itâs only the beginningâ.

But a cursory search through the transcripts of Kirbyâs three previous press conferences following the 25 Syria bombing shows that the spokesman did not make a single reference to the militias which were attacked as âShia-backed.â Instead, in his 26 February press conference, Kirby said that US forces had âconducted an air strike against infrastructure utilized by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria.â He went on to refer to the militias as âIranian-aligned,â and groups with âties to Iranâ or supported from âout of Iran.â
Journalists werenât the only ones to notice the apparent decision by the Pentagon to change its choice of language. Twitter users were similarly confused, with some suggesting that the Biden administration was trying to soften its earlier anti-Iran claims, and others accusing Kirby of ignorance or even discrimination against Shia Muslims.
âItâs kind of like calling a militia Presbyterian-backed,â one user wrote, adding that âShia is a religious denomination under Islam. How can a militia be âShia-backedâ?â âJust imagine if another nation called US troops âProtestant-backed forcesâ,â another user quipped, calling Kirbyâs comments âridiculous and insulting.â
âYeah that doesnât give me a lot of confidence in this administrationâs Middle East policy,â
https://www.cnet.com/personal-finance/senate-approves-1-9-trillion-stimulus-bill/
The US Senate has approved the $1.9 trillion stimulus package, which includes a third stimulus check of up to $1,400 and extended benefits for families and small businesses. The Senate voted on Saturday after a reading of the entire 628-page bill on Thursday and a more than 24-hour voting session that started Friday and stretched overnight when the process got bogged down in debate over unemployment benefits.
Democrats voted down a series of Republican amendments during the marathon session, called a vote-a-rama, before approving the relief package by a 50 to 49 vote along party lines. Sen. Dan Sullivan, a Republican from Alaska, returned home to attend a family funeral and wasn't present for the final vote.
On Friday, Senate Democrats made a key concession, agreeing to drop their bid to raise unemployment benefits to $400 a week. Under a deal struck with help from the White House, the Senate approved an amendment to extend jobless benefits through Sept. 6 at $300 a week.

ORLANDO, Fla. (Tribune News Service) â While Florida is no stranger to hurricanes at ground level, the Earth once experienced a 620-mile-wide âspace hurricane.â
Thatâs what researchers were calling a phenomenon that formed over the North Pole in 2014 captured for the first time by the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program. Instead of wind and rain, though, the âspace hurricaneâ was whipping around electrons. Made up of plasma, the vortex spun counter-clockwise and lasted about eight hours, according to the research compiled by scientists from the University of Reading and Shandong University in China.
They published their findings in the journal Nature Communications.

Student loans
The Senateâs bill includes a provision to make any student loan forgiveness passed between Dec 31, 2020 and Jan 1, 2026 tax-free. Usually, forgiven debt is treated as taxable income.
The Senateâs bill does not include student debt forgiveness directly, but it would make it easier for President Joe Biden to forgive $10,000 in student debt, as he has said he wants to, by executive action, if Congress does not do it.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An Israeli-Canadian lobbyist hired by Myanmarâs junta said on Saturday that the generals are keen to leave politics after their coup and seek to improve relations with the United States and distance themselves from China.
Ari Ben-Menashe, a former Israeli military intelligence official who has previously represented Zimbabweâs Robert Mugabe and Sudanâs military rulers, said Myanmarâs generals also want to repatriate Rohingya Muslims who fled to neighboring Bangladesh.
He said Suu Kyi, Myanmarâs de facto leader since 2016, had grown too close to China for the generalsâ liking.
âThereâs a real push to move towards the West and the United States as opposed to trying to get closer to the Chinese,â Ben-Menashe said. âThey donât want to be a Chinese puppet.â
President Joe Bidenâs administration has denounced the coup and imposed sanctions on the army and businesses it controls. A U.S. State Department official declined to comment.
Hundreds of thousands of people have protested in almost every town and city in Myanmar for weeks demanding the release of Suu Kyi and respect for the results of Novemberâs election, which the military says was marred by fraud.
Ben-Menashe said the junta could prove the vote was rigged, and that ethnic minorities were blocked from voting, but provided no evidence. Election observers have said there were no major irregularities.

The website for attorney Debra Katz, of the law firm of Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP, was hacked and taken offline early Saturday morning. Katz currently represents former political aide Charlotte Bennett in the investigation into alleged sexual harassment by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.).
The splash page for kmblegal.com simply contained the phrase âAGENT-TESTâ for hours before the firm was able to restore service to the website late Saturday morning.
âOur website has been restored and we have reported the hack to law enforcement,â the firm said to Law&Crime in a statement Saturday afternoon.

Next, no evidence supported any of the postâs claims regarding Clintonâs purported detainment.
Hypothetically speaking, if the undercover operation had indeed taken place, it is unlikely that âReal Raw Newsâ would be the first to report the significant development in the news media. Even if it was the first, more established news organizations, including Fox News, BBC, The Associated Press, and Al Jazeera, would at least mention, if not significantly highlight, the news with one or more stories on their websites or broadcast programs.
Additionally, the official Twitter accounts for Clinton and her political allies remained active, as this writing, with no indication that she had been arrested. Nothing on websites outlining her political agenda mentioned the alleged detainment. If the postâs claims had been true, Clintonâs circle of high-profile Democratic supporters would no doubt issue statements or hold news conferences in response to her arrest.
In sum, no, Clinton was not arrested by Navy SEALs in March 2021 for any reason, including treason.

Attorney Linn Wood has released an interview with a whistleblower [pdf here] who operated for years within part of the apparatus connected to Deep State surveillance. While the focus is upon the activity of Rod Rosenstein and even Mike Pence as it relates to the Trump administration, there is part of the interview that connects to a much deeper aspect. The testimonial connects a larger story if you know what to extract.
While I am still reviewing the overall content, within the first few pages of the interview this segment jumps out â BIG TIME:
The whistle-blower is describing his activity in Baltimore, Maryland, while working with then U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein. At first review this part seems attributed only to attest the validity of the whistle-blower himself. However, read carefully what he just stated while reminding yourself of the issue encountered by former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson.
Most people have forgotten that Sharyl Attkissonâs story originated with some unknown entity planting âclassified materialâ on her laptop, which she discovered and then independently had reviewed by forensic auditors. Attkissonâs computer audit identified government intrusion into her computer system, which not coincidentally is exactly what the whistleblower is outlining in this segment of the testimonial. Stay with meâŚ
You might also remember that later on âearly 2020- someone provided Attkisson with details and a tip about the intrusion. That information then led to Ms. Attkisson refiling the lawsuit and, this is the important partâŚ. Attkisson named Rod Rosenstein and Shawn Henry, a former FBI in her follow-up lawsuit. Shawn Henry was the former head of the FBI DC field office, who was also became the head of Crowdstrike, a contracted intelligence gathering operation for the government and a politically connected data security and forensic company.
