Three Gaza fishermen killed by apparent Palestinian rocket, rights group says

GAZA (Reuters) - Three Palestinian fishermen were killed on Sunday when their boat exploded off the Gaza Strip, a blast that a human rights group said was likely caused by errant Palestinian rocket fire.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights said the boat was two miles offshore when the shell hit and "completely destroyed it".

"The center condemns the incident, which indications suggest mostly likely occurred as a result of resistance training," said the statement, referring to Palestinian militant groups.

Israel's military denied any connection to the incident and said "our indications show that their deaths were caused by an explosion inside Gaza".

The Interior Ministry in Gaza, which is run by the Islamist group Hamas, said it was investigating the incident.

Hamas' armed wing said it opened an investigation into the "painful incident" and would publish the results as soon as possible.

FEC Reports Show Kanye West's Presidential Campaign Violated Fundraising Practices

Kanye West may face further legal scrutiny following his failed presidential run, with the Federal Election Commission citing several violations in its report of the rapper’s campaign.

According to the Daily Beast, Kanye’s campaign accepted multiple donations from minors and possible contributions from foreign nationals, with his operation including some false names and addresses linked to drop-shipping facilities on the east and west coasts. Additionally, an investigation could be launched into his unlawful fundraising practices that accumulated almost $100,000 in small donations in 2021.

It’s unlawful to intentionally seek and take donations from people who are younger than 18. But as part of his campaign, Ye seemingly targeted teens and sold campaign merchandise on his site, which included $40 hats and $200 Kanye 2020 Vision hat/hoodie bundle. The price of those items has since risen on other online marketplaces.

Ian Bloom, a 16-year-old who donated to West’s presidential bid, told the outlet he spent $3,280 on Kanye merch, which he still hasn’t received in the mail. He ordered the gear from the campaign store in late January and was hoping to resell it online. “I don’t know what’s happening there,” Ian Bloom said. “I ordered like 20 hoodies off his campaign website, along with a lot of other people that I know. They said it would be three weeks, and after that I emailed the support team, and the email just wasn’t a thing.”

He shared a screenshot of an email he had sent to the campaign, which bounced and revealed his email address had been blocked. Bloom said that his next move was to dispute the charge with his credit card company, which is still under review.

Of the campaign’s 3,161 reported donations, students comprise over 1,200 of those donors, committing $349,160 in total, and contributing $26,540 in 2021 alone. Bloom stays in touch with other resellers on Discord, telling the Daily Beast, “I can say with confidence that at least half of us in the group have to be still in high school.” Two other high school teenagers told the outlet they had donated to West’s campaign in January and hadn’t received their items either.

A 12-year-old boy from Washington, D.C. has been arrested and charged with a series of four armed carjackings in the city that al took place in under an hour.

The incidents began at approximately 6:29 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, when two suspects reportedly approached a person who was seated in their vehicle, brandished a handgun at them and demanded that they exit the vehicle, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

“The victim did not comply and fled the scene,” said the MPD in a statement.

The suspects struck again 46 minutes later at approximately 7:15 p.m. just a few blocks away from their initial carjacking attempt when they, again, approached an individual sitting in their car, showed them their firearm and demanded that they get out of their vehicle. This person also did not comply with the suspect’s orders and fled the scene.

Just five minutes later at approximately 7:20 p.m., the suspects made a third approach to a victim, showed them the firearm and subsequently demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle before the suspects ended up fleeing the scene on foot.

“At approximately 7:24 pm, the suspects approached the [last] victim, who was seated in their vehicle, in the 1000 block of Evarts Street, Northeast,” the MPD said in a statement. “One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim exit her vehicle. The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects was apprehended a short time later. The victim’s vehicle was recovered.”

According to the MPD, a 12-year-old juvenile male from Southeast, D.C., was arrested that same evening and charged with the armed carjacking offenses. An additional suspect who was with the 12-year-old suspect was captured on surveillance footage but has not yet been arrested and is still on the run.
