Switzerland narrowly votes to ban face covering in public, including the burka or niqab

Swiss voters have approved a ban on full facial coverings including niqab and burqa in nearly all public places in a closely contested referendum on Sunday.

The result means facial covering will be banned in all publicly accessible places, including on the streets, in public offices, on public transport, in restaurants, shops and in the countryside.

The controversial proposal gained support of 51.21% of voters and the majority of the country's 26 cantons, according to official provisional results published by the federal government.

The only exceptions include places of worship and other sacred sites. Face coverings will also be allowed if worn for health and safety reasons, because of the weather and in situations where it is considered a "local custom" to do so, such as at carnivals, according to the text of the proposal published by the Swiss federal government.

The New York Times, which previously declared that pedophilia “is not a crime,” has vowed to cancel the classic cartoon Pepé Le Pew.

According to NY Times columnist Charles Blow, Looney Tunes skunk Pepé Le Pew is guilty of “normalizing rape culture.”

“As a child, I was led to believe that Blackness was inferior. And I was not alone. The Black society into which I was born was riddled with these beliefs,” Blow wrote.

“It happened for children in the most inconspicuous of ways: It was relayed through toys and dolls, cartoons and children’s shows, fairy tales and children’s books.”

Outkick.com reports: Apparently, a fun-loving cartoon skunk in search of romance and chasing the cartoon female skunk of his dreams (heaven forbid) somehow tied into this message.

“Some of the first cartoons I can remember included Pepé Le Pew, who normalized rape culture,” Blow blows. “Speedy Gonzales, whose friends helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans; and Mammy Two Shoes, a heavyset Black maid who spoke in a heavy accent.”

In the event all of that isn’t enough, Blow admitted that he “cheered” when Dr. Seuss got cancelled.

“So, this week when the company that controls the Dr. Seuss books announced that they would no longer publish six of the books because of racist and insensitive imagery, saying ‘these books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,’ I cheered as some bemoaned another victim of so-called ‘cancel culture,’” Blow wrote. “Racism must be exorcised from culture, including, or maybe especially, from children’s culture.”

Blow makes a valid point that racism should be “exorcised” from culture. No one would disagree with that. But know what else should be omitted? Seeking out examples of racism where there’s no intention of it.

Oh, and know what else should be omitted? Pedophilia.

So, got that? Cartoons are bad, pedophilia is OK, and the Times continues its rapid march right into the looney bin. Just don’t invite Pepé Le Pew.

French Billionaire MP Olivier Dassault Dies In Helicopter Crash

French billionaire Olivier Dassault, a politician and scion of the Dassault aircraft-making family, was killed in a helicopter crash Sunday, with President Emmanuel Macron paying tribute to a captain of industry who "never stopped serving our country".

Dassault died around 6 pm (1700 GMT) when his aircraft crashed near Deauville in northern France, parliamentary and investigation sources told AFP.

Macron was quick to pay homage to the 69-year-old member of parliament, saying in a tweet that "Olivier Dassault loved France. Captain of industry, local MP, reserve commander in the air force; throughout his life he never stopped serving our country."

Macron called his death "a great loss" and sent his condolences to Dassault's family.

Sources close to the crash enquiry said the pilot of the helicopter was also killed, and that no one else was on board.

"I am thinking of his family and loved ones who must feel terrible pain," said Richard Ferrand, president of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament in which Dassault served as a representative for the Oise area of northern France.

Many of Dassault's colleagues on the political right also paid tribute to the son of Serge Dassault and grandson of Marcel Dassault, who built up one of the biggest family fortunes in France.
