A whistleblower has called for a Government inquiry to investigate allegations of systemic child sex abuse at the country’s biggest Army base.

Anthony O’Brien, 64, who retired from the Defence Forecs in 2003, says children living on the Curragh Camp in Co Kildare were subjected to “horrific” abuse.

He has contacted the Department of Defence and the Taoiseach’s office having uncovered a litany of attacks by paedophiles on the military base dating back to the 1970s.

Dubliner Anthony, who was stationed at the Curragh for 22 years, has taken statements from more than 40 alleged victims which he sent to the Department of Defence.

A survivor of sexual abuse by a Jesuit priest and teacher at Belvedere College in Dublin has urged other victims to come forward.

Yesterday, the Jesuit Order issued a statement naming the now deceased member, Joseph Marmion, and said he sexually, emotionally and physically abused boys while he was on the teaching staff in the 1970s.

The Minister for Children has welcomed an independent review into the management of historical child sexual abuse allegations at St John Ambulance.

St John Ambulance Ireland wrote to Minister for Children Roderic O'Gorman stating that the review would be carried out by Dr Geoffrey Shannon, an internationally recognised expert in child protection.

Under the terms of reference, Dr Shannon will review how the organisation handled past allegations of child sexual abuse relating to one volunteer.

It will also examine the current standard of child safeguarding.

Minister O'Gorman has commended individuals who have, at immense personal cost in some cases, had the courage to share their experiences.

Report on the homes was published, but many survivors upset at inaccuracies in their testimonies, and that the commission has been wound up without an opportunity to address this, and multiple issues

The response reads: "Between 1 January and 17 February 2021, diplomatic clearance has been provided for landings of forty-four foreign military aircraft in Ireland."

While there is no breakdown of the nationality of these flights, Mr Coveney answered another parliamentary question from independent TD Catherine Connolly which showed that 28 of the landings were in January — 25 from the US, two from the Netherlands and one from Switzerland.

There have been nine instances of US troops stopping overnight at Shannon Airport with around one military flight landing per day this year.

It’s yet another scandal in Irish financial services. The recent fine on Davy may be the biggest of its kind ever levied on a broker in Ireland, but the damage inflicted on the firm may yet be greater than the sum of €4.13 million it was penalised by the Central Bank.

A rogue personal gain by 16 employees at Davy Stockbrokers has left the firm paddling through stormy waters, as it tries to preserve its reputation and client base. Three of the highest ranking of those involved left the firm over the weekend, while all 16 members involved could yet face sanctions from the Central Bank. But what exactly happened at the firm, and what could happen next?

(Anon is keeping fingers crossed prosecutions will follow, but in Ireland these guys usually get away with this stuff - this is a lot of habbenings in the last week though)
