Was thinking about this earlier today- we have no intellectual barrier to acknowledging that S American cultures practiced it, or even African (they still do today). But there is a weird intellectual barrier to acknowledging that people who look like us (Europeans), albeit more wealthy and fancier than us, still do it today.
