Honestly, I think this happened to DeNiro.
I remember during the early years of Taxi Driver and on up through Casino, he would NEVER do interviews. He was like Joaquin Phoenix - never talking or doing any kind of interview. Definitely never any politics.
Now, you can't shut the guy up - it's like it's not the same person.
