Manchin just told fakenews CNN he is still pro 60 senator filibuster

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/03/17/politics/joe-manchin-filibuster-latest/index.html

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin rejected major changes to the Senate rules that have long been sought by liberals seeking to gut the filibuster, the latest sign of the high hurdles facing proponents who are eager to weaken the power of the minority party to derail the legislative agenda of the majority.

Manchin's view is important because Democrats can't muscle through any rules changes without a unified caucus given that the chamber is divided 50-50 and all Republicans are likely to oppose such changes.

Manchin told CNN "yes," he was drawing the line at maintaining the 60-vote threshold to defeat a filibuster, even as many in his caucus want to lower that threshold to 51 votes to make it easier to advance legislation on a party-line basis.

"I'm still at 60," Manchin said. "That's where I'm at. I haven't changed."

Ok so basically as long as Dems don't have 60 senators, Joe and the DNC's fantasies can never become a reality. Rs will give them a spending bill here and there, nominations, but gutting 2A or making illegals legal ain't happening. This makes me think of what Q said, Senate was the target I feel like Q was always playing the long game, not expecting a second Trump term. Or at least not consecutively. This is not another 4 year election

Q always knew what was up. Naturally, we didn't. Anyway, 2nd amendment is looking safe.

It had to be this way.

This is not another 4-year election.

@LeaderMcConnell

Today, I made clear that if Democrats ever attack the key Senate rules, it would drain the consent and comity out of the institution. A scorched-earth Senate would hardly be able to function. It wouldn’t be a progressive’s dream. It would be a nightmare.

I guarantee it.

Senate was the target

If Dems got rid of the filibuster the Republicans could call a quorum for every Senate action. This means every committee meeting, every speech, even asking for a cup of coffee would require the presence of 51 senators. There's rarely even close to that many senators present. And the VP doesn't count in a quorum.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell warned ominously Tuesday of a “scorched earth” landscape if Democrats use their new majority to bring an end to the Senate filibuster in hopes of muscling legislation supporting President Joe Biden’s agenda past GOP opposition.

McConnell unleashed the dire forecast of a Senate that would all but cease to function, implying that Republicans would grind business to a halt by refusing to give consent for routine operations — from the start time for sessions, to the reading of long legislative texts, to quorum call votes.

I met her once.

Was introduced to me by her uncle if I remember correctly. In a very unassuming middle class environment. Uncle said she was a singer to which I said cool. Was pretty much the end of that.
