Report on abuse in Cologne diocese: Woelki exonerated, Heße incriminated

Cardinal Reiner Maria Woelki comes off well in the new report on abuse cases in Cologne. Serious accusations are made against other bishops.

 

In their investigation, however, the experts leveled serious accusations against Hamburg Archbishop Stefan Heße, who had previously worked in Cologne and had long been in charge of personnel. In the case of Heße, the files revealed a total of eleven breaches of duty. Seven of these breaches of duty were cases of abuse that had not been properly dealt with.

 

And the best part…

By far the most serious accusations were made by the experts against Cardinal Joachim Meisner of Cologne, who died in 2017. He was accused of 24 breaches of duty and thus almost a third of all cases. Cardinal Joseph Höffner, who died in 1987, was also accused of breaches of duty, the experts found.
