Determining a persons disposition & ability to function (not over react) under high stress scenarios should be the ultimate qualifier for law enforcement personnel.

The argument that 'because of the stressful environment' police should not be held to the same standard is (imo) very insincere.

De-escalation should always be #1 priority followed by #2 de-escalation.

>but how do you train people to respect law and order and not constantly do dumb ass shit?

That question has probably been asked throughout timeโ€ฆ Being a good parent goes a long ways but doesn't always answer that question.

>Imagine having to deal with the absolute dregs of society, 24/7?

An extremely valid point.

In most cases (imo) de-escalation tactics will work but for those circumstances that de-escalation isn't successful then we need to address and find a reasonable solution without the loss of life.
