The priest who presided over Joe Biden’s inauguration mass is now under investigation in California for “inappropriate behavior.”

According to a statement from Santa Clara University, where Father Kevin O’Brien is the president, he “exhibited behaviors in adult settings, consisting primarily of conversations, which may be inconsistent with established Jesuit protocols and boundaries.”

The statement did not elaborate on what those conversations entailed or what the allegations against him are.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security adviser Jake Sullivan met with China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi and State Councilor Wang Yi in Anchorage, Alaska on Thursday.

Blinken’s meeting with China’s top diplomat quickly went south on Thursday evening.

Each delegation had two minutes for opening statements by each principal.

Blinken opened the conversation with a public rebuke of China’s cyberattacks and aggression in the region.

“We will … discuss our deep concerns with actions by China, including in Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan, cyber attacks on the United States, economic coercion of our allies,” Blinken said in a public rebuke, according to Reuters.

“Each of these actions threaten the rules-based order that maintains global stability,” Blinken said.

China’s delegation violated the two-minute protocol and went on a 20-minute tirade, lecturing Blinken and Sullivan.

In talking points that mirror the Democrat party, the Chinese diplomat blasted the US for ‘poor treatment of blacks’ and told Blinken the US should handle its own affairs and China its own.

Candace Owens triggers Twitter by inviting Putin on show, says Biden dodged Kremlin request for debate over ‘mental health’ issues

US conservative commentator Candace Owens believes President Joe Biden is not mentally capable of publicly debating his Russian counterpart and offered Vladimir Putin an invitation to be a guest on her show instead.

The bold and harshly-worded take on Biden and Putin, which Owens asked her Twitter followers to share, came after the two world leaders exchanged ‘pleasantries’ through the media this week.

Things kicked off when Biden called Putin a “killer” in an interview and promised that the Russian would “pay a price” for allegedly interfering in the 2020 US presidential election. Putin responded by wishing Biden good health (unironically, Putin stressed) and challenging the US president to a public debate on issues dividing the two nations.

Unsurprisingly, the White House rejected the call, which Candace claimed was done “for obvious mental health reasons,” referring to what many conservatives perceive as a decline in Biden’s energy and wits.

“I would like to publicly invite Vladimir Putin to sit down with me for a wide-ranging interview,” Owens wrote.

The online reaction to her tweet was as divided as one could expect in the confrontational political world of present-day America. Outraged commenters told her to go see a therapist or wondered if the post came from a parody account.

Owens is not the only US celebrity who recently made a Twitter bid to secure a one-on-one with Putin. Last month, billionaire Elon Musk asked the Russian president to join him at the audio chat app Clubhouse for a conversation. The Kremlin did not take Musk up on the offer, however.

New CDC Guidelines Permit Students To Sit Closer Together So Long As Masks Remain

The CDC has just released the second major shift in its federal COVID-19 guidelines (following its declaration that "fully vaccinated" individuals can ignore masks requirements and other social distancing measures while visiting with friends and family in private). In an update released Friday, the CDC said K-12 students in schools that practice "universal masking" can safely sit three feet apart, instead of six feet apart.

While teachers are still encouraged to maintain at least six feet of distance, US media outlets posited that the decision "could speed the reopening of schools," according to WSJ.

Teachers are being asked to continue observing the 6-feet of distance because COVID transmission rates are higher among adults.

Students are asked to continue keeping six feet of distance from one another during eating and activities like singing or sports, or at other times when masks can't be worn, as well as in common areas like school lobbies and auditoriums. The new guidelines apply regardless of whether community spread is low, average or high.

Some teachers and parents have scoffed at President Joe Biden's insistence that he plans to reopen K-8 schools by the end of his first 100 days in office, and the latest guideline change offers a hint as to why. While the CDC played up the change, parents and teachers complained that enforcing these guidelines is much more easily said than done.

Around the country, some of the largest public school districts have been engaged in a battle with teachers' unions about the plans for reopening.

China reduced the mandatory distance between students in its schools last year, and a recent study examining Massachusetts schools indicated that reducing the distancing requirements to three feet likely wouldn’t negatively affect student or staff safety (so long as mask mandates remain).

The study compared 251 school districts with different distancing requirements and found little deviation in case rates among students and staff members (so long as everyone wore masks).

During an interview on CNBC earlier, former FDA head Dr. Scott Gottlieb slammed the CDC for focusing too much on these picayune guidelines, arguing that the federal government should focus instead on "getting on top of these new variants".

Coroner Calls for Audit As People Who Recovered 9 Months Ago Counted as COVID Deaths

Chicago, IL — Monroe County Coroner Bob Hill is making waves in his home state of Illinois this week after he examined a portion of the list of possible COVID-19 deaths. What he found was utterly shocking and has led to calls for an audit of COVID-19 deaths in his state.

According to the Center Square, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed 19,893 deaths through the end of February in Illinois where COVID-19 was listed among multiple causes. Of those deaths, about 1,830, or 9.2%, had COVID-19 listed as the sole cause of death.

That percentage is higher than it was in September 2020 when the rate was about 6%.

However, Hill calls these numbers into question after reviewing many of the cases, finding that people who died from clearly non-COVID-19 issues are being counted as dying from COVID-19.

“My concern is, I’ve reviewed several cases, (of 100 cases) about ten of them here in Monroe County, that the state has deemed COVID-related deaths and none of them have had underlying conditions or contributing factors to COVID,” Hill said. “So my concern is no matter when the person was tested positive, the state is automatically giving them a death classification as related to COVID.”

Biden White House reportedly weeds out dozens of staffers for past pot use despite Kamala Harris bragging about using cannabis

The administration allegedly told staffers that past marijuana use would not be disqualifying

Dozens of White House staffers were suspended, asked to resign, or forced into a remote work program because of their past marijuana use, according to a report from the Daily Beast.

Young White House staffers revealed their use of cannabis in an official document they were required to fill out as part of the background check to work at the White House. The staffers allege that they were assured by officials in Biden's administration that recreational marijuana use would not be a disqualifying factor, three people familiar with the situation informed the Daily Beast.

The staffers were reportedly "pleased" that the Biden administration was so open-minded about cannabis.

"In some cases, staffers were informally told by transition higher-ups ahead of formally joining the administration that they would likely overlook some past marijuana use, only to be asked later to resign," the report stated.

Some of the staffers used marijuana in places where cannabis use is legal for adults, which includes 15 states and Washington, D.C.

However, sources claim that the Biden administration weeded out those who had used marijuana, and "young staffers were either put on probation or canned because they revealed past marijuana use."

"The policies were never explained, the threshold for what was excusable and what was inexcusable was never explained," a staffer told the Daily Beast.

Last month, NBC News reported that "past marijuana use won't automatically disqualify Biden White House staff."

"Though marijuana use is legal in a growing number of cities and states, it's still illegal under federal law and is therefore a potentially disqualifying factor in obtaining security clearances," NBC News stated. "Transition officials quickly identified recreational marijuana use as a potential hurdle for applicants, especially younger ones, in meeting that requirement."

An official in the Biden administration reportedly said that the candidates who used cannabis in the past would be considered eligible on a "case-by-case basis."

‘Biden Should Be Ashamed’: GOP Says Border Crisis Feeding Child Sex Trafficking

The migrant surge is boosting the smuggling of children for forced labor and sexual exploitation, converting the border into a “huge market” for “child sex trafficking,” Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) said this week.

“Human trafficking, my friends, is slavery,” Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) pointed out as he briefed reporters Wednesday alongside Salazar and other Republicans.

He went on to note “30 percent of the women and girls coming through this [migration] process are going to be raped.”

“We can’t standby and let that happen. We have boys and girls as young as six or seven years old being pushed into sex trafficking,” he added.

Some parents put their child on the migration pathway to the U.S. southern border process with “false hope” who never hear from their child again because that child will die, Owens also said.

“President Biden should be ashamed of himself. Ashamed. This was preventable,” Owens pointed out, adding, “There are people suffering, going through misery because they were given false hope.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Reps. Carlos Giménez (R-FL) and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) joined the Republicans who spoke to reporters on Tuesday.

Salazar reiterated comments she made when she visited Texas Monday, noting that Biden’s policies fuel the ongoing crisis at the southern border. She claimed they put the lives of migrants, including unaccompanied children, at risk during the harrowing trip, and they encourage sex trafficking.

Addressing the U.S. Latino community, Salazar said in Spanish:

Unfortunately, once again, we have a crisis at the border. Our Hispanic community is being used on the one hand by human traffickers, drug cartels, and coyotes who create false hope for immigrants who want to reach the United States. On the other hand, we have the Washington politicians … who play with our community’s hopes to stay in power and win votes.

US Federal Grand Jury Charges Four 'Proud Boys' Members With Conspiring to Impede Congress on 6 Jan

On 6 January 2021, a mob of aggressive pro-Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol building during the Joint Session of Congress, which had convened to count the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election victory of Joe Biden.

Four members of the 'Proud Boys' organisation were charged by a federal grand jury with conspiring to impede Congress on 6 January, a new superseding indictment unsealed on Friday shows.

According to the indictment, all four defendants are the leaders of Proud Boys divisions in their respective states: Ethan Nordean of Washington, Joseph Biggs of Florida, Zachary Rehl of Pennsylvania and Charles Donohoe of North Carolina. They were charged with conspiring to encourage members of the group to attend the "Stop the Steal" protest in Washington, DC on 6 January.

They supplied paramilitary equipment used during the storming of the Capitol, dismantled metal barriers set up around the building, and communicated using handheld radios and messaging applications, the indictment alleges.

On 6 January, hundreds of pro-Trump supporters gathered outside the US Capitol building when lawmakers were gathering inside to officially count the votes in the November 3 presidential election and announce Democrat Joe Biden the winner. The rally turned violent after an aggressive mob stormed the building, vandalised it and clashed with the police. Five people died during the event, and dozens more were injured, including 138 police officers. Law enforcement authorities have arrested hundreds of individuals who participated in the Capitol riot, charging more than 65 participants with assaulting federal officers.

Stop Sending Migrant Children for Cartels to Abuse, Says Rep. Chip Roy

LAREDO, Texas — President Joe Biden and political allies need to stop sending messages that encourage the sending of children and underage teens from Central America into the hands of cartels, which oversee smuggling operations to the U.S., said Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) in a recent video interview.

“You ought to be sending the signal to stop sending your kids on the top of trains so the cartels and illicit organizations can abuse them,” Congressman Roy said–in what he referred to mixed messages sent by proponents of more relaxed border policies. Roy warns the trend only enriches Mexican cartels.

Roy recently visited a child detention center in Carrizo Springs and then toured the border zone in Laredo, Texas.

Roy argues that although detention facilities for underage migrants are widely vilified, the site he toured in Carrizo Springs was well-kept yet full.

“You can not like the way that process works but you are burying your head in the sand,” Roy said. “You have children now, what are you going to do with that child … how are you going to keep them safe?”

The current crisis has placed an undue burden on the U.S. Border Patrol that has removed agents from the field and turned them into caretakers at the much-vilified facilities, he said

“The facilities I’ve seen operated by Border Patrol, sometimes they are overwhelmed, they are Border Patrol, they are not supposed to be in the people management business,” Roy said.

The ongoing surge in the number of migrants entering the country has rapidly filled up detention centers, forcing FEMA to open new centers in Texas.

Nigerian Arrested for Kidnapping and Sexually Assaulting Disabled 11-Year-Old Girl

A 19-year-old Nigerian migrant was indicted by a French court in Roanne on Tuesday after being charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting an eleven-year-old girl.

Prosecutors charged the 19-year-old Nigerian with “kidnapping, forcible confinement and sexual assault” after police had arrested him in a neighbouring town on Sunday.

The parents of the eleven-year-old alleged victim, who has a mental disability, reported her as having disappeared on Sunday evening to the police, newspaper Le Parisien reports.

According to the newspaper, police launched a task force that included a dog unit to trace the missing girl’s whereabouts and were able to use the girl’s mobile phone and its geolocation data to track her down in the neighbouring town of Coteau.

Michigan House Makes Moves to Subpoena Former Gretchen Whitmer Health Director

The Michigan House of Representatives is making moves to subpoena former health director Robert Gordon after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) secured a confidentiality agreement barring any comment about his official tenure.

State Rep. Steve Johnson (R), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, introduced House Resolution 60, which would grant his committee the power to subpoena the former appointee.

Johnson previously invited Gordon to appear voluntarily, but Gordon declined.

On Thursday, Whitmer and Gordon announced he had been released from the confidentiality provision preventing him from speaking publicly.

“Due to weeks of public pressure, Governor Whitmer and former Director Gordon announced that they are waiving the confidentiality portion of their separation agreement,” Johnson said in a statement.

“Yet, we received a letter from Gordon this morning stating that he will not testify before our committee and failed to answer our questions,” he said.

“On occasion, there were robust conversations about policy issues where reasonable people could disagree and did. This was healthy: The stakes were life and death, and different people have different roles,” Gordon wrote in the letter, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Gordon said he intended his letter to represent his testimony to the committee.

“What is the point of removing the confidentiality section of the agreement if you still refuse to testify? This is a disingenuous head fake at transparency and the House Oversight Committee is committed to holding public officials accountable,” Johnson said.

Granting subpoena power to the committee requires a simple majority vote. It already has the power to compel documents, but not individuals.

Gordon resigned abruptly in January from leading the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Whitmer awkwardly refused to provide details repeatedly. Reports emerged in March that Gordon had secured a $155,000 settlement Republicans deemed “hush money.”

The appointee assumed the role of issuing coronavirus-related edicts after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled in October that Whitmer’s nearly 200 executive orders were unconstitutional.

“The public deserves to know what happened between the governor and MDHHS that led to Robert Gordon’s abrupt resignation,” Johnson said in the news release.

“Transparency surrounding issues that led to the resignation of the public health department director in the middle of a health pandemic should be of the utmost importance,” he said, adding the committee “will continue to take the legal steps necessary to hear from former Director Gordon.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis: Vaccine Passports ‘Terrible Idea’; State Mandate ‘Totally off the Table’

A vaccine passport, requiring an individual to show proof of receiving a vaccination for the Chinese coronavirus to participate in certain activities, is a “terrible” and “unacceptable” idea that will not be embraced in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) told reporters on Thursday.

DeSantis, who held a roundtable discussion with renowned doctors and epidemiologists who praised the steps Florida took in its response to the virus by rejecting further lockdowns and intrusive restrictions, made it clear that the Sunshine State will not require a vaccine passport — an idea that is under consideration, particularly for international travel.

“The vaccine passport is a terrible idea. We are definitely not going to require anything from the state’s perspective. That is totally off the table,” DeSantis said. “If I have businesses that want to do that in Florida, I think that that’s more than just a private decision.”

DeSantis said the decision would impact society and, particularly, disadvantaged people, making it a “negative” move for the state as a whole.

“So what form that would take, I’d have to discuss it with my folks. I’d have to discuss it potentially with the legislature. But I think it’s a very, very bad idea,” he continued.

“Look, if you want to go to a movie theater or concert, all this stuff, go. If you don’t, don’t. But to require somebody to show some type of proof of vaccination, I think, is completely unacceptable, and it’s not something that we’re going to support here in any way in Florida,” he vowed.

Report: Myanmar’s Dirty Timber Entering EU

Myanmar’s lucrative timber trade continues to be mired in criminality and corruption, including systematic tax evasion worth millions of dollars by companies exporting teak wood to European markets, according to a report published Wednesday.

Produced by the Environmental Investigative Agency (EIA), the paper reveals how private companies exporting timber bought from the state-run Myanma Timber Enterprise (MTE) have long been overstating how processed their teak is so as to illegally evade or reduce taxation.

This system of trade mis-invoicing has artificially reduced the cost of shipments bound for European markets, argues the report, with ABC in Slovenia, HF Italy in Italy, Houthandel Boogaerdt in the Netherlands and WOB Timber in German included among the EU companies that have received and benefitted from this illegally harvested timber.

It has also, of course, defrauded one of Asia’s poorest countries of millions of dollars in tax revenue, which is ironic given Myanmar Teak, the so-called “King of Hardwoods,” is primarily used for the luxury yacht market, providing the decks on which the world’s wealthiest citizens can relax.

Yet this is only the latest revelation hitting Myanmar’s timber sector, which has for years been destroying the country’s forests at a phenomenal rate: the EIA paper claims an area roughly the size of Finland and Slovakia combined was lost between 2001 and 2019. Teak demand has driven this staggering deforestation, with illegal logging and smuggling feeding international markets.

The report’s timing is also important, coming in the aftermath of Myanmar’s February military coup, which has hamstrung the young democracy six years after military rule had apparently ended. Since the country’s economic liberalisation in the 1990s, the military has greatly enriched itself by exerting control over extractive industries, especially the timber trade.

That has taken many approaches: taking a cut of illegal logging and timber trafficking from northern Myanmar to China, taking bribes from private timber companies in exchange for logging concessions, shipping “tainted timber” out of military-owned ports, and even, many believe, confiscating thousands of tons of illegal timber every year only to stockpile them for private resale.

Furthermore, while the democratic opposition took numerous steps after 2015 to combat illegal logging and reduce overall deforestation, there are signs the return of military rule means the resurgence of these unsustainable and illegal practices.

For while the US already imposed targeted sanctions on senior military figures and military-connected logging companies last month, and the EU is due to impose similar sanctions on Monday, the huge Chinese and Indian markets will likely remain open to Myanmar’s tainted timber.

Kamala Harris Tells Irish Prime Minister Atlanta Murder Incident ‘Speaks To A Larger Issue’

Hosting the Prime Minister of Ireland, Micheal Martin, on Wednesday, St. Patrick’s Day, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke of the recent murders of eight people in Atlanta, saying the incident “speaks to a larger issue which is the issue of violence in our country.”

Harris started, “I’m just going to say a few words about an incident that is occurring, a horrible incident, in our country, and then we’re going to begin our conversation. But before I begin I do want to talk about what happened in Georgia in Atlanta. It is tragic. Our country, the president and I and all of us, we grieve for the loss. Conservatives now calling for huge cuts to military budget as Pentagon goes full “woke”

The United States military is facing major backlash for its newfound promotion of “woke” culture within the armed forces.

After fake “president” Joe Biden told America that the military needs more “maternity flight suits” for pregnant fighter pilots, the Pentagon came out and made some bizarre declarations about how expectant mothers are going to “dominate” on the battlefield.

Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson devoted an entire segment to the issue, which itself drew criticism from left-wingers who claim he is “disrespecting” the military.

The reality, though, is that the military is disrespecting itself. The conservative elements of American society that would normally support the military are now second-guessing whether it should even be funded anymore at current levels.

All over Twitter, critics blasted the military and the Pentagon for making a mockery out of our nation’s defense apparatus.

“Active duty military openly taking a political side is, uh, at least 100x more concerning than anything Trump ever tweeted,” wrote a user named Rachel Bovard in response to a disturbing tweet from Sgt. Major of the Army Michael Grinston.

Grinston says that women are the ones leading America’s “most lethal units.” He further says that women “will dominate ANY future battlefield we’re called to fight on.”

Grinston also blasted Carlson for daring to question this new narrative, calling Carlson’s words “divisive” and not a reflection of “our values.”

Another made an interesting observation about how Carlson’s segment on Fox has done more to damage the military in the eyes of the conservative demographic that would normally support it “than twenty years of incompetence and failure in the Middle East.”

Hilariously, one Twitter user compared Grinston’s statement to the “nurses’ twerking videos last year,” referring to the dancing nurses who were so bored at their dead Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) units that they started making choreographed TikTok videos and sharing them across social media.

“Perfect time for @DrPaulGosar to propose cutting $100 billion from the @DeptofDefense next fiscal year and sending that as relief checks to the American people,” added another Twitter user, joining the chorus of criticism against Biden’s military.

Fort Bliss soldier, 31, is shot dead 'by his 13-year-old stepson with his own gun after assaulting the boy's mother'

A US Army soldier stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas has been allegedly shot dead by his 13-year-old stepson with his own handgun, after police say the boy saw him assault his mother.

Sgt 1st Class Allan Edwards, 31, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at La Mirada Apartments in the 10500 block of McCombs Street in El Paso on Sunday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edwards' 13-year-old stepson was taken into custody and turned over to the Juvenile Probation Department, but he has yet to be charged in connection with his stepfather's death.

2013 Rockefeller Paper Predicted Isolation, the Death of Physical Interaction & Global Health Police

At the 2013 Global Health Summit in Beijing, China, 112 key individuals from governments, the private sector, international organizations, and other groups, met to discuss how the next 100 years of global health may look. The summit released a white paper, titled: Dreaming the Future of Health for the Next 100 Years, which was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation.

In a section of the report that detailed what the participants were relatively certain of, there is a description of life that has many similarities to what has transpired in response to Covid, including isolation and an increasingly virtual life:

“The abundance of data, digitally tracking and linking people may mean the ‘death of privacy’ and may replace physical interaction with transient, virtual connection, generating isolation and raising questions of how values are shaped in virtual networks… Education will undergo major transformation due to convergence of insights from cognitive psychology and new online tools (chunking, crowdsourcing, chatrooms, mass open online courses) creating learning spaces in the ‘many to many’ forms of peer to peer learning, outside formal classrooms” (p.8).

The report then moves on to hypothesize on four different scenarios that could take place in the future, under a section, titled: Waking Up in 2050. In Scenario 1, The Scramble for Health Resources, there is a dystopian depiction of what life may be like in January, 2050:

“We are living in a competitive and insecure world! Yesterday Global Health Inc sent the armed robots to a small pirate factory that had been 3d printing skin tissue for street sale in our poorer communities. The market for it is high due to injuries from the uncontrolled burning of waste for heat, as many cannot afford the new energy tariffs. There have many deaths from hypothermia in poorer, elderly people.

Global Health Inc claim that the factory aren’t registered with their wealth fund, that the tissue was substandard and that they were implementing the global contract they have for policing public health. People in poorer communities are angry as they relied on that factory for cheap products and accuse Global Health Inc of protecting their patents. There are rumours that some from Section X of the city, you know the unplanned area where the 2046 solar flare refugees are living, well that some of them have torn off their sensors and are planning a food and fuel raid on the wealthy suburbs in the south” (p.13).

The description what life may be like in January, 2050, continues:

“Many are worried about the possibilities of infectious diseases from Section X spreading to their neighbourhood. Their private health management schemes have sent reassuring messages that they are covered in their packages by a fault-free surveillance system that is able to detect any disease, and reminders to ensure that they have had their annual sensor checks” (p.13).

In Scenario 2: Health if we Make it Happen, the report discusses the possibility of a Global Standards Agency in Beijing, and a common international currency, by January, 2050:

“We were briefed by videoconference from the Global Standards Agency in Beijing on the latest norms cities should reach on environment, wellbeing, local production and recycling. We raised our concern that state authorities are not enforcing the standards. The Community Food Producers Association asked why the findings of the 2047 evaluation on investing in state and citizen enforcement were not being acted on. The representative of the GSA told us that is a local matter, but Greg from the CFPA raised that local government funds collapsed after the common international currency (CIC) was adopted” (p.14).

10-year civilian bloodbath follows NATO airstrikes in Libya

Abdel Rahman al-Tamami’s short life was a dark mirror of his country’s woes. Born shortly before thousands of Libyans took to the streets demanding freedom, he died last month aged just ten, killed while commemorating the liberty his people were supposed to have won.

It was February 16th 2021 and Libyans, including Abdel Rahman’s family, had gathered in the streets of the southern Libyan city of Sabha to commemorate the anniversary of the uprising against dictator Muammar Gaddafi. As if from nowhere, a mortar shell struck the crowd. Abdel Rahman received a terrible headwound and he died later in hospital — with up to 30 more civilians injured in the unclaimed attack.

It’s been ten years since the first NATO airstrikes targeted Gaddafi’s forces during the “Arab Spring,” turning the tide in the country’s civil war and helping bring down the brutal dictator. In that decade there have been intermittent periods of calm, but the threat of often arbitrary death from the skies has never disappeared.

NATO’s 2011 intervention was based on a United Nations mandate to protect civilians. For seven months it bombed the Gaddafi regime into submission, resulting in the Colonel’s eventual capture and brutal killing at the hands of rebel groups.

In many ways it was seen as a success. UN investigators later said NATO had conducted a “highly precise campaign with a demonstrable determination to avoid civilian casualties.” New research from Airwars published March 18 finds that Gaddafi’s forces killed relatively few people with heavy weapons — almost certainly a result of NATO taking out Gaddafi’s tanks and airplanes.

“If you’re trying to assess the legacy of the aerial intervention, it was lauded by many as a success,” said Frederic Wehrey, a Senior Fellow at Carnegie Endowment.

Yet Airwars has also found that civilian casualties from NATO actions were likely considerably higher than the 60 deaths that United Nations investigators recorded in 2012, based on 20 incidents they had investigated. This has been published today in a significant new database documenting locally reported civilian casualties from all parties to the fighting.

The research, which looked at civilian harm by all sides in the 2011 civil war, found between 1,142 and 2,515 civilians likely killed in 212 incidents reviewed by the team. The majority were allegedly caused by forces of the Gaddafi regime — between 869 and 1,999 likely deaths. But NATO airstrikes also resulted in 223 to 403 likely civilian deaths in those events reviewed by Airwars.

When asked to comment on these statements, Peskov noted that they are informative. "This means that it [the discussion] cannot take place today. But as President Putin said, it’s either Friday or Monday, because on the weekend, Putin won’t be in very comfortable conditions to organize communication with the US president, so Monday is still an option. Another option is [to hold the talks] at any time convenient for the US president," the Kremlin spokesman reminded.

According to Peskov, Russia is currently initiating the talks between Putin and Biden via diplomatic channels, and it will wait for a response.

The spokesman reminded that the first phone call between the Russian and US leaders after Biden’s inauguration was held on the initiative of the US.

"And now, in light of President Putin’s initiative, the Russian side is showing initiative itself and sending it via diplomatic channels. It will wait for a response," Peskov said.

He explained that "action is taken to request such a contact" between both leaders via diplomatic channels.

The existing technologies make it possible for Putin and Biden to hold a conversation via a secure video link, according to Peskov.

When asked what platform could host such an event, he said: "There are video links and video conferences." "In fact, video conferences have become an important part of life in all countries," Peskov added.

Biden to reinstate accountability measures stripped by Trump

The Biden administration plans to reinstate government accountability measures that were stripped during the final days of the Trump administration.

A source familiar with the plans told The Hill the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is preparing to revamp the good governance provision in the budgeting process that requires agencies to set goals and meet them in order to get funding.

“This is about making sure we are making solid decisions that are not just based in political rhetoric alone — that there are numbers and data behind it,” the source said.

“A commitment to good government should not be partisan.”

The Hill first reported in December that the Trump administration was mulling changes to Circular A-11, a thousand-page document federal agencies use when they compile their annual budget requests.

The key provision targeted by the Trump administration requires agencies to justify their funding requests by demonstrating they are making progress on their goals — something experts feared could hamstring the Biden administration if not quickly reversed.

“All of this is embedded in here because it represents the priorities the administration is trying to accomplish, and of course the budget is one of the principal tools that they have to get stuff done,” Robert Shea, an associate director at OMB during the George W. Bush administration who is now a principal at consulting firm Grant Thornton LLP, previously told The Hill.

“If performance measures are pulled out of A-11, the White House has lost a lot of leverage in getting agencies to take that threat seriously,” he said.

The Trump administration ultimately spiked the provision on Christmas Eve, with then-OMB acting Director Russell Vought arguing the measures were being removed, in part, due to a lack of interest from the public.

“The thousands of pages of performance data generated by agencies and posted on performance.gov each year attract little interest,” Vought wrote, calling the effort one of many to “reduce the burden and expense of low-value government work [that] have been a hallmark of this administration.”

“We have consistently sought to streamline or eliminate bureaucratic processes that do not lead to impactful change or measurable efficiencies.”

Lobbyist in $60 Million Ohio Bribery Probe Found Dead in Florida

Clark, who founded Columbus lobbying firm Grant Street Consultants, was accused last year of playing a key role in a $61 million scheme to elect Larry Householder to the House Speaker post and pass a bailout for two Ohio nuclear plants. Clark pleaded not guilty and denied wrongdoing.

The FBI recorded conversations between Clark and Householder as part of their investigation into the bribery scheme. In those conversations, Clark described himself as Householder’s “proxy” and the dark money available to them as “unlimited.”

A longtime Ohio lobbyist who had pleaded not guilty in a sweeping federal bribery investigation has been found dead.

In response to a request about information concerning Neil Clark’s death, the sheriff’s office in Collier County, Florida, where Clark had been living, provided a report describing a man’s body being found near a pond Monday morning by a bicyclist. The county medical examiner confirmed to AP it was Clark’s body and that a medical investigation and autopsy are underway.

When officials reached out to the man’s wife, she said the couple was having financial issues and that she had not heard from her husband for a couple of hours, according to the report.

Clark, 67, had pleaded not guilty in August over an alleged role in a $60 million scheme in which federal prosecutors say FirstEnergy companies funneled money through a network of dark money entities to then-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder in exchange for the passage of a $1 billion nuclear bailout bill.

Student Loan Forgiveness: Biden Releases Scam Victims From Debt

The Biden administration has forgiven $1 billion in student loan debt for people defrauded by for-profit colleges. The move, which comes as a reversal of Trump-era practices, involves alerting eligible candidates in the next few weeks, The Washington Post reports.

Under former Secretary of Education Betsey DeVos, loan forgiveness was calculated based on the current earnings of the candidate. For many scammed students who never completed their degrees and were buried in debt, that meant it was impossible for them to get relief.

Newly confirmed Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona has returned the department to the standard under the Obama administration, granting full forgiveness to students who were defrauded by colleges.

“Borrowers deserve a simplified and fair path to relief when they have been harmed by their institution’s misconduct,” Cardona said. “A close review of these claims and the associated evidence showed these borrowers have been harmed and we will grant them a fresh start from their debt.”

In addition to simple debt relief, successful applicants will have the Department of Education request the hit to their credit score also be removed. They will also be eligible to receive federal aid.

That said, there are still many unprocessed claims. The current change applies to only 72,000 of 200,000 total applications. Going forward, the Biden administration says to expect more rewrites of department guidelines around debt forgiveness.

The Education Department recently released documents showing Trump leadership directing employees to stop processing applications and issue mass denials to everyone applying for forgiveness.
