In my fam, you put the food on your own plate. So if you weren't that hungry or didn't like certain things, that was fine.. just take a little bit of what you did like of the meal. If it wasn't enough, then seconds are fine too.
however.
If your eyes are bigger than your stomach, then you would sit there until it's eaten. No playing after dinner, no, you finish what you took. then go play.
you learn really fast that taking more than your body wants is a bad Idea.
