It was rendered poorly by the animator.
The designers didn't think it was important to make the crash realistic?
The wing "entered the Tower" before the rest of it.
It was more important for the "plane" to enter the Tower, so when the Tower turned to dust in ~10 seconds - 20 seconds completely, the falseness wouldn't "jump out" since people would think the aircraft crashed "INSIDE THE BUILDING"!
People might wonder why the vast Tower disintegrated if the "aircraft" was shown to crash outside its walls
i.e. if the "plane " realistically crashed
Why didn't they use a real plane?
A real plane wouldn't enter the building.
A real plane would present too many possibilities for failure; Too many things could go wrong; There would be not enough control?
Unlikely they could do CGI in 17 second delay, back in that day, to imitate a real crash anyway.
And a real plane crash would fail to give the affect they desired.
