White House confirms firing several staffers for previous marijuana usage
Biden administration is working to change policy.
Biden administration press secretary Jen Psaki is confirming Friday that the White House has dismissed several staffers due to their earlier use of marijuana as a recreational drug.
The Daily Beast first reported on the purported firings. In a tweet Friday, Psaki confirmed the firming, stating five people had been dismissed under the White House rule.
Psaki said the White House recently "had worked with the security service to update the policies to ensure that past marijuana use wouldn’t automatically disqualify staff from serving in the White House."

A New York Times podcast Friday revealed the audio of a 2018 telephone conversation where Cuomo threatened to compare a progressive leader to a "child rapist" because he wasn’t happy with the group’s tepid political endorsement of him.
The recording adds to the growing revelations against the New York executive who is facing an onslaught of sexual harassment and bullying claims.
The New York Times reported the text of the phone conversation between Cuomo and Bill Lipton, the head of the Working Families Party, back in February. At the time, Cuomo’s office said the exchange was untrue.
But on Friday, The Times’ "Daily" podcast published the audio of that call that confirmed indeed Cuomo threatened to brand his critic as a better alternative to a pedophile over a mere political dispute.

DC Fencing to Be Removed After Capitol Police Admit No 'Credible Threat'
That uninviting outer fencing around the U.S. Capitol will reportedly come down in the coming days after it’s made a mockery of the principles this country was founded upon for more than two months.
Acting House Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett issued a memo on Friday announcing that the Capitol architect and the U.S. Capitol Police together “will remove the outer perimeter fencing around the Capitol complex sooner than initially anticipated.”
CNN reported that the move could come as early as this weekend, said Blodgett. The man told lawmakers that “there does not exist a known, credible threat against Congress or the Capitol Complex that warrants the temporary security fencing.”

These discussions are happening at every military installation in the U.S., per a Feb. 5 directive from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who gave commanders 60 days to schedule the so-called stand-down on domestic extremism.
Austin’s directive came in the wake of the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. While investigations are ongoing, authorities estimate that nearly 1 in 5 of those charged in connection with the attack were either current or former service members.

Laundering Federal funding for the national ID database
The latest response to one of our Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) requests shows the lengths to which the Federal government has gone to obscure its underwriting of the construction of a national ID database.
Supporters of a national ID database know that there is resistance to exactly that idea. So they try to pretend that there is no such thing.
They can’t credibly claim that the SPEXS database doesn’t exist, so they try to pretend (1) that this isn’t a national database but merely a distributed national network of state drivers license and ID databases (which it could be, but isn’t, since it includes a national “pointer” database with a record of personal information for each drivers’ license or state-issued ID card), (2) that this State-to-State network isn’t mandated by Federal law (a clearly false claim, since the Federal REAL-ID Act of 2005 requires that to be “compliant”, each state must “Provide electronic access to all other States to information contained in the motor vehicle database of the State”), and (3) that this network and database are being built by states, not by the Feds.
The problem with this third and last line of rhetorical defense against opposition to the creation of a national ID database is that much of the funding actually is coming from the Federal government. But the Feds have gone to great lengths to obscure their role in funding the creation of the infrastructure for a national ID scheme.
