A grand jury is expected to be seated this week in Fulton County, Georgia, to look into efforts by Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election, signaling that the county's investigation into the former president is intensifying.

Prosecutors in Fulton County are expected pursue subpoenas for documents and witnesses and rely heavily on them, people familiar with the investigation told ABC News.

In a letter sent last month from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to Gov. Brian Kemp and obtained by ABC News, Willis said the grand jury would convene in March and would "begin requesting grand jury subpoenas as necessary at that time."

Willis wrote in the Feb. 10 letter that her office had no reason to believe any Georgia official was the target of the investigation.

‘Impossible to trace.’ Tech savvy dad may be holding daughter captive in WA, cops say

A father accused of kidnapping his teenage daughter17months ago could be holding her captive in Washington, but histechnology skillsare making it hard for authorities to find him, officials say.

Authorities say John Oliver Westbrook kidnapped his daughter, Daphne Westbrook, 17, in October 2019 from Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to a news release posted on Facebook by the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office in Tennessee.

Investigators say Westbrook is holding Daphne against her will and they’re struggling to locate them because he is “anIT expert specializing in security, block chain technology and bitcoin.”

“He is communicating in a way that’s almost impossible to trace, which makes it extremely difficult for investigators to generate significant leads in this case,” the release said. “Daphne is increasingly at serious risk of physical and emotional danger.”

Daphne and her dogs, Fern and Strawberry, never returned from a weekend visit with her dad in October 2019. In November 2020, someone spotted Daphne in the Denver area, according to the release.

Investigators recently learned Westbrook was in Santa Fe, New Mexico the first few weeks of 2021 then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado about three weeks ago, according to a news release from the district attorney, posted by the Auburn Examiner.

Westbrook’s sister lives in Auburn, Washington and is in frequent contact with him, according to the release. Officials say she has not been cooperative with the investigation and she has “repeatedly avoided interview requests [from] the U.S. Marshals Service.”

Authorities believe Westbrook will try to seek shelter with his sister in Auburn, about 15 miles northeast of Tacoma.

“We also believe he may have made attempts to alter his appearance and Daphne’s, including using hair dye and false teeth,” Hamilton’s district attorney said.

Investigators say Westbrook, who’s been indicted on aggravated kidnapping charges, is making money by “contracting with small businesses to do computer security work.”

The Hamilton County District Attorney asks anyone with information about Daphne, her father or her dogs to call 423-209-7415 or send tips to FindingDaphne@hcdatn.org.

Duke helicopter pilot may have shut off wrong engine before fatal crash, NTSB says..

The pilot of a Duke Life Flight helicopter that crashed in Hertford County in 2017 may have accidentally shut off one of the aircraft’s engines just before the second malfunctioning engine failed, according to federal investigators.

The helicopter came down in a ditch between two fields near Belvidere, about 12 miles from Elizabeth City, killing all four people on board. They included the pilot, Jeff Burke, two flight nurses and a patient they were flying from Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City to Duke University Hospital in Durham.

The crash happened about 11:20 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2017. Not long after take off, bearings in one of the aircraft’s two engines seized up, according to a report from the National Transportation Safety Board. The No. 2 engine continued to run, but investigators say the problem would have created “multiple and likely unexpected and confusing cockpit indications.”

Specifically, the report says, the pilot might have concluded that the No. 1 engine was creating much less torque than the malfunctioning No. 2 and decided to shut it down.

Investigators say the throttle control for the undamaged No. 1 engine was found in the “off” position, while the throttle for the damaged one was still in the “flight” position.

“This evidence indicated that the pilot likely shut down the No. 1 engine and that the helicopter continued to fly for some time with power being provided only by the No. 2 engine,” the NTSB report says.

When the No. 2 engine failed a short time later, the helicopter crashed, the report says. Investigators say they could not determine exactly what caused the No. 2 engine to lose all power.

Investigators say it’s possible Burke was trying to make an emergency landing when the crash occurred. Witnesses reported that the helicopter appeared to be under control and hovering about 300 feet in the air when it dropped to the ground and burst into flames.

The NTSB says that height was too low for Burke to make an emergency landing using autorotation, or the upward draft of the wind to turn the helicopter’s blades.

The helicopter had a flight data recorder, but investigators found no usable information on it, according to the NTSB report. The battery appeared to have expired, the report says.

Investigators say the lack of flight data makes determining exactly what happened in what order in the cockpit impossible. They drew their conclusions based on close examination of the engines, switches in the cockpit and other equipment as well as knowledge of what indicator lights and displays would have shown as the No. 2 engine malfunctioned.

Burke, a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was 51 and living in Clayton when he died. Also killed were flight nurses Kristopher Harrison and Crystal Sollinger and their patient Mary Bartlett.

China has big money reason to look at Taiwan

China wants to seize the country of Taiwan for several reasons, including control of the first island Chain for force projection into the Pacific Ocean, and the Chinese realize that about 70% of the world’s semiconductors transit through Taiwan.

China has constantly tried to advance their own semiconductors over the years to rival Taiwan’s but has yet again failed in that regard. This further pushes China towards their attempt to invade Taiwan again.

A US$20 billion semiconductor manufacturing project backed by the Chinese government has gone belly-up, as its key operator Wuhan Hongxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (HSMC) announced its decision to dismiss all employees on Friday (Feb. 26).

Employees at the company, which was once touted as part of Beijing’s plan to become a self-sufficient chipmaker, were “asked to resign” by Monday via a WeChat message, according to Chinese media reports. The company made clear that it had “no plan to resume production,” which has been halted since late 2019 due to failure to attract more investors.

A Department of Children and Families employee and her husband are accused of repeatedly sexually battering a 13-year-old girl over a period of 10 months, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Sarah Adams, 34, was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual battery on a minor, lewd and lascivious battery, child neglect and failure to report suspected child abuse, deputies said. Her husband, Thomas Adams, 33, was arrested that same day on two counts of sexual battery of a minor and single counts of lewd and lascivious battery and using a computer to solicit a child, deputies said.

The arrest report said Sarah Adams is an administrative assistant with the Department of Children and Families, the state’s child welfare agency that investigates allegations of abuse and neglect. Under Florida law, she is required to report any allegations of child abuse or neglect — just like a healthcare professional, teacher or law enforcement officer.

The abuse started in February 2019, according to the Sheriff’s Office, when Thomas Adams forced the girl to watch pornography and perform sexual acts on him. The girl told him “no” on several occasions, deputies said, but he ignored her and the abuse continued into December. In order “to show appreciation” for her sexual acts, deputies said the husband would give the teen a marijuana vape pen to smoke. The wife was aware that the girl was being sexually battered, deputies said, then joined in the assaults in November of that year.

The Sheriff’s Office did not say when the allegations were reported. But after they were, deputies said they arranged for the girl and the husband to speak in a recorded phone call. He admitted to the sexual battery, addressed her pregnancy concerns and apologized to the girl, according to the arrest report.

Deputies said they also examined several cell phones and found that the couple communicated about the allegations with the girl via text.

Sarah Adams’ position at the state agency, and her failure to report the abuse in a “timely” manner, according to the arrest report, led to the charge of failing to report child abuse or neglect.

Department of Children and Families officials on Friday said they would issue a statement about Adams, but had not released one as of Friday evening. Her employment status at the agency was unclear.

The Sheriff’s Office asked that a high bail be set for the couple because of “the severity of the charges and the defendant’s contact with other juveniles due to her employment.”

Thomas Adams was being held Friday in the Pasco County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail. Sarah Adams is being held in lieu of $370,000 bail.

All during the coronavirus situation, masked reporters masking reality have noted, enthusiastically, every mortality milestone reached during the past year. Now it’s “500,000 Americans have died of COVID-19!” which certainly is an attention-getter. It’s also profound COVIDiocy, writes an ex-medical examiner with more than 30 years experience in death investigation. The number isn’t even remotely accurate.

After outlining his impressive résumé, that man, Dennis McGowan, explains why he calls the way SARS-CoV-2 deaths are recorded “the big lie.” He writes:

Death certificates are pretty uniform in their structure, and they call for strict accuracy in listing the relevant details. There are five critical lines on a death certificate, each having its own contribution to the final conclusion.

The first (top) line is “Immediate Cause of Death.” This is where the actual terminal event is recorded. This line is followed by three more, all labeled “Due To,” where contributors to the immediate cause, in declining order, are listed. An example of this structure might be Immediate Cause listed as Cerebral Hemorrhage, and the first Due To line might be Gunshot Wound. Very direct. In the event that there are other contributors in the cascade of Due To notations, they would follow, in descending order. Finally, there is a line called “Other Significant Conditions,” which serves as a catch-all for relevant, non-fatal items. In the example above, this line might read Severe Depression to explain why there was a gunshot wound to the head.

You can imagine how many death certificates I’ve seen in my career, but you can’t imagine the number of death certificates that are being fraudulently tallied in this current pandemic. Someone in some bureaucrat’s office decided that if COVID appears anywhere on a death certificate, it is counted as a COVID death, even if it isn’t. If COVID is on the Immediate Cause line, it is clearly a COVID death. If it is on the first Due To line, it might be a COVID death in a person with a significant comorbidity. If it is on the second or third Due To line, it may or may not have a role in the death, but if it appears in the Other Significant Conditions line, it is not a COVID death, yet it is being counted as one. An example is the fellow who crashed his motorcycle and tested positive for COVID.This is fraud masquerading as science.

1. Only 3 Companies Control 90% of the Global Insulin Market

The ‘big three’ insulin producers – Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Sanofi – dominate more than 90% of the world insulin market by value. Often only one of these companies supplies insulin in a country, which means they more or less hold a monopoly there and can set prices as they wish. In some countries, notably China and India, there are domestic insulin companies that can help drive down the price. This means we need more companies in markets like the USA to help bring prices down. We’ll touch on that a bit further down the list.

1. No Generic Insulin

When it comes to the question of generic insulin, we are faced with another complicated issue. Insulin is a therapeutic biological product (or 'biologic'), rather than a chemically synthesized molecule. This means it cannot be made as generic in the same way as other drugs. Creating what is called a biosimilar is a lot more complicated and expensive than just duplicating a chemical molecule. There is little market incentive to produce biosimiliars because it costs nearly as much as making new drug, and companies must go through all the approval stages and trials that a new drug is required to go through. Not to mention, current biosimilar insulins on the market – primarily produced by the ‘big three’ – have only reduced the price by about 10-15%. 1. Pay-for-Delay Schemes & Lawsuits

A ‘Pay for delay’ agreement is a patent dispute settlement in which a generic (in the case of insulin, a biosimilar) manufacturer acknowledges the original patent of a pharmaceutical company and agrees to refrain from marketing its product for a specific period of time. In return, the company receives a payment from the patent-holder. This means it is actually legal for one insulin producer to pay another one not to enter the market. A few years ago the company Merck announced plans to sell a biosimilar version of Sanofi’s Lantus. Sanofi sued, and eventually Merck announced that it was no longer pursuing it’s biosimilar, presumably due to payments from Sanofi to stay away. If Pay for delay schemes don’t work, the ‘big three’ can still sue other players, prolonging processes and pushing players out of the market because of legal fees and time-wasting. All of these are win-wins for companies, and lose-lose for patients.

1. Patents

Why aren’t we seeing more companies making insulin? There are many reasons for this, but patent evergreening is a big one. Patents give a person or organization a monopoly on a particular invention for a specific period of time. In the USA, it is generally 20 years. Humalog, Lantus and other previous generation insulins are now off patent, as are even older animal based insulins. So what’s going on? Pharmaceutical companies take advantage of loopholes in the U.S. patent system to build thickets of patents around their drugs which will make them last much longer (evergreening). This prevents competition and can keep prices high for decades. Our friends at I-MAK recently showed that Sanofi, the maker of Lantus, is no exception. Sanofi has filed 74 patent applications on Lantus alone, that means Sanofi has created the potential for a competition-free monopoly for 37 years.

1. Politics

Companies are not in the habit of throwing money away, and they are not in the habit of staying out of politics. Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi collectively rake in several billions of dollars in profits. That’s not millions, but billions – with a B. We know they spend millions on marketing, but they also spend millions on lobbying politicians and donating to our decision-makers so that they keep quiet about price gouging. Check if your representatives receive contributions from one of the ‘big three’ insulin manufacturers or any pharmaceutical company. Chances are, they do. Not to mention, the revolving door between pharma companies and US Government positions. Our current secretary of Health and Human Services was previously an Eli Lilly executive. Obviously, his interests are not with people, but with power. This is why independent patient voices are so important.

As patients are reluctant to change, a number of marketing and financial incentives are employed to influence this decision.

Arizona and West Virginia ended capacity limits for restaurants and other businesses on Friday, but social distancing measures and mask mandates will remain in place, and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) told residents, “we are not in the clear yet.”

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont became one of the first Democrats to lift many of his state’s Covid-19 restrictions on Thursday, promising to eliminate capacity limits on restaurants, stores, gyms and other businesses starting in two weeks.

On Monday, Massachusetts lifted its capacity limits for indoor dining, and South Carolina and Virginia eased their mandatory “last call” curfews for bars and restaurants, decisions all three states’ governors announced last week.

Virginia, Wyoming, South Carolina and Pennsylvania all loosened their restrictions on gathering sizes starting Monday.

Louisiana, Kentucky, Michigan and some other cities and states made more granular changes this week, including easing capacity restrictions on restaurants.
