Egypt has urged citizens seeking entry into the United States to abide by legal entry procedures, a statement by the foreign ministry read on Sunday.

The foreign ministry asked citizens to abstain from illegal migration means into the US through Mexico or Central America given the dangers that they could face.

“Citizens will be in risk of prosecution and arrests by security authorities,” it added.

The statement comes days after the US said that this week saw the highest surge of migrants - in 20 years - at its southwestern border, according to statements by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

He said attempted border crossings from people arriving from Central America and Mexico have witnessed a rise since April 2020.

The US Customs and Border Protection said, earlier this month, that its agents carried out over 100,000 apprehensions and expulsions of individuals seeking to reach the US through the crossing with Mexico in February

Several White House officials who worked in the Obama administration have returned to public service after gaining massive wealth since leaving 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Some officials also return with deeper connections to corporate interests.

Financial disclosure reports analysed by ABC News show that many on Mr Biden's staff have added millions to their coffers since they last stepped foot in the White House. Chief of Staff Ron Klain, Domestic Policy Council Director Susan Rice, National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, and coronavirus response coordinator Jeff Zients all have multiplied their wealth over just the last few years.

Ms Rice reported three to four times more in various assets in 2021 than she did when she entered the Obama White House in 2009. She holds between $36m and $149m in various assets, according to her financial disclosure report that was released on Saturday.

In 2009 when she became the ambassador to the United Nations, she reported having assets worth between $13.6m and $40.4m. The most recent filing shows that she holds shares worth between $250,000 and $5m in companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Apple and Microsoft.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan reported that together with his wife Margaret Goodlander, they hold assets worth between $7.5m and $27.5m. A lot of the wealth of Mr Sullivan comes from real estate in Florida and New Hampshire, ABC News reported.

Fittingly, Margaret “Maggie” Goodlander was born on Election Day 1986, her mother’s water having broken while still in the voting booth. Politics have been in her blood practically ever since.

The Portsmouth attorney, 34, has worked alongside U.S. Sens. Joseph Lieberman and the late John McCain, has clerked for Judge Merrick Garland and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, has traveled to dozens of countries as part of bipartisan congressional delegations, and has helped craft landmark legislation regarding immigrants and human rights violations.

She also served as counsel for the U.S. House Judiciary Committee and House Managers during the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

Mayorkas made nearly identical arguments to CNN’s Dana Bash and Fox News’ Chris Wallace, who also pressed the secretary to explain a lack of transparency for press at the border.

Wallace confronted his guest about a congressional delegation that had no media access, asking, “Why did you refuse to allow reporters to see the conditions under which these minors are being held?”

The secretary pointed to the pandemic, telling him, “We’re working on providing footage so that the American public can see the border patrol stations.”
