The Freedom to Travel, at Home and Abroad, Has Been Unreasonably Restricted

Happy anniversary! It’s been a year since Australians lost one of our fundamental human rights: the freedom of movement.

This is a freedom that has been restricted to various degrees by governments around the world and continues to be a hot-button issue in the United States in particular. Just this week, for example, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis loudly bucked Biden’s wish to reinstate lockdown restrictions.

Looking at the situation Down Under, is it a stretch to say we’ve lost our freedom of movement?

Australia is a signatory to seven international human rights treaties, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article 13 of that treaty states that

Biden Spends $86 Million in Hotel Rooms for Illegal Aliens

Some migrant families arriving in the United States will be housed in hotels under a new program managed by nonprofit organizations, according to two people familiar with the plans, a move away from for-profit detention centers that have been criticized by Democrats and health experts.

Endeavors, a San Antonio-based organization, will oversee what it calls "family reception sites" at hotels in Texas and Arizona, the two sources said. The organization, in partnership with other nonprofits, will initially provide beds in seven different brand-name hotels for families deemed vulnerable when caught at the border.

France: Paris police discover that among 229 ‘minor’ Muslim migrants, 216 are actually adults

After setting up a fingerprint database in cooperation with North African countries, the Paris police prefecture positively identified 229 “minor” migrants, of which 216 were revealed to be adults.

The Directorate of Security of the Paris Metropolitan Area (DSPAP) implemented the system 15 months ago in cooperation with authorities in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia and have requested identification for 939 migrants over that period.

Of the 229 ‘underage’ migrants positively identified, 94 per cent were actually adults. Those whose identities were confirmed were 156 Algerians, 71 Moroccans, and two Tunisians. The remaining migrants were classified as of “unknown origin”, according to a report from the newspaper Le Figaro.

DOJ Prosecutor Appointed By William Barr Now Says Trump May Be Criminally Culpable For Capitol Riot

Michael Sherwin, the federal prosecutor now overseeing the Capitol riot investigation, told 60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley that the DOJ was continuing to investigate the Jan. 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, including examining whether former President Donald Trump could be criminally culpable for his role and whether the rioters could be charged with sedition.

“Has the role of former President Trump been part of your investigation?” Pelley asked.

“It’s unequivocal that Trump was the magnet that brought the people to D.C. on the 6th,” replied Sherwin. What makes that statement particularly striking is that Sherwin was appointed to be Acting US Attorney for District of Columbia by Attorney General Barr and earlier this month was asked to stay on to lead the Capitol riot investigation.

Florida deputy arrested on rape warrant while in Miami for National Guard deployment

A Highlands County Sheriff’s deputy wanted on a domestic rape charge has been arrested in South Florida — where he’d been deployed to serve in a Florida National Guard unit.

David Warren Ray, 39, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center over the weekend. An arrest warrant had been issued by a judge in Highlands County, which is about 100 miles south of Orlando.
