Syrian Foreign Minister Arrives At Muscat… Will Oman Play Role In Resolving Syrian Crisis?

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad arrived in the Sultanate of Oman, on his first official visit to an Arab country since he assumed office, succeeding the previous Minister Walid Al-Muallem.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that Al-Miqdad and his delegation began a working visit in Oman on March 20 that would last for several days. Al-Miqdad was received upon his arrival by the head of the Department of Economic Gatherings and Dialogue in charge of running the work of the Protocol Department at the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Khaled Bin Saeed Al-Jaradi, and Minister Mahmoud Bin Khamis Al-Hinai, who’s in charge of running the business of the Arab Mashreq at the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Al-Miqdad is expected to meet with his Omani counterpart Badr Bin Hamad Al-Busaid, and a number of Omani officials. The file of the political settlement in Syria is one of the main reasons of the visit that is aimed at reducing of tension between Syria and the Gulf countries.

As Saudi Arabia and Qatar logistically and financially participate in Syrian war with their continuous support during the last decade of the anti-government armed groups.

It is noteworthy that Al-Miqdad’s visit comes after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s recent tour to several Gulf countries, and the subsequent talk about a Russian initiative to put forward the role of Arab countries in order to end the Syrian crisis and support the political solution. It may be sees the Sultanate of Oman as a mediator to restore these relations and revitalize them economically and politically.

Damascus believes that this cooperation may lead to strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries.

“The Sultanate’s balanced, calm and responsible policy earned it the respect and appreciation of the world. We appreciate the Omani efforts seeking to end the suffering of the Syrian people and Oman’s support to the restoration of stability in Syria.” said Faisal Al-Miqdad, claiming that the balanced and peaceful policy of Oman has earned it the respect and appreciation of the world.

Muscat is known to play the mediating role in the most complex files, especially as it was the link between Washington and Tehran within the Iranian nuclear agreement, and other files, when Muscat was the head of negotiation process. Thus, it is possible that the Sultanate will play such a role in the Syrian file negotiations or mediation between the Arab countries and Damascus.

Richest 1% Of Americans Hiding 20% Of Income From IRS

America's richest 1% aren't paying taxes on up to one-fifth of their income, according to Bloomberg, citing a new study which concludes that US tax evasion is far more widespread than previously estimated.

The authors of the study found that while random audits can detect some tax evasion, the IRS misses more sophisticated schemes to avoid reporting income - including offshore structures and private business entities. According to the report, if the Treasury was able to collect the unpaid income tax from the top 1%, revenue would increase by $175 billion per year - which is roughly twice the amount Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) wants to slap on the rich with a prospective wealth tax (and which would promptly move offshore as well).

Last week, IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig told a House panel that audit rates for high-income taxpayers have dropped precipitously over the past decade due to staff shortages among the group which audits wealthy individuals.

"We stress that our estimates are likely to be conservative with regard to the overall amount of evasion at the top," the authors wrote, adding that while basic audits can uncover discrepancies between income reported by employers and tax returns, private business profits and complex investment partnership schemes are far more difficult to identify.

The hidden income at the top means that income and wealth inequality could be more skewed than researchers have previously estimated, the authors concluded. The study was conducted by two IRS researchers, John Guyton and Patrick Langetieg, and three professors: Daniel Reck of the London School of Economics, Max Risch of Carnegie Mellon University, and Gabriel Zucman of the University of California at Berkeley. -Bloomberg

The solution? The researchers suggested that the IRS deploy "additional tools" to "effectively combat high-income tax evasion," which could include more specialized audits and whistleblowers. We assume the latter means rewards for dropping the dime on one's employer.

Congress is currently discussing allocating more funding to the IRS after years of budget cuts, so that the tax collection agency can hire specialized auditors and improve their technology - while also allowing them to collect more data from banks and financial institutions.

In “Surprise” Turn, Former CAR President Takes Lead Of Rebel Alliance

After months of speculation, it turned out that the rebel alliance in the Central African Republic was, in fact, led by former president François Bozizé.

In a statement by the spokesperson of the alliance, it turned out that he had “taken charge” weeks before being admitted on March 21st.

Bozizé seized power in the former French colony in 2003 and was ousted a decade later, an act that sparked a civil war along sectarian lines.

The government has accused him of being behind a failed offensive against President Faustin Archange Touadera in December.

Bozizé’s spokesman Serge Bozanga confirmed that he had agreed in February to become “general coordinator” of the so-called Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), which attempted to block Touadera’s reelection, only to see their offensive repulsed.

Bozanga confirmed the authenticity of a document dated February 18th stating that Bozizé had accepted the CPC’s leadership “call”.

The constitutional court earlier blocked Bozizé’s bid to stand in the December presidential election, on the grounds that he was under UN sanctions over his alleged support for militias held responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the 2013-14 conflict.

Bozizé, who voiced support for the CPC in December while urging a boycott of the elections, denied allegations of heading the group.

But now he heads it.

On January 4th, the government launched an inquiry into him for “rebellion”.

Up against a 12,000-strong UN peacekeeping force as well as hundreds Rwandan soldiers deployed in late December. The CAR government forces also received support from Russian military specialists that were requested to assist. The rebels have been in retreat since a January 13 attack on the capital Bangui was thwarted.

Illegal Immigrants to Receive $4.38 Billion in Stimulus Checks: Report

As Americans start to receive the latest round of stimulus checks, a new analysis reveals that about $4.38 billion will also go to illegal immigrants.

The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that 2.65 million illegal immigrants have Social Security numbers that allow them to receive stimulus checks. This group of illegal immigrants can be described as “aliens temporarily present without status,” according to Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies.

“These individuals are in the country illegally and could be required to leave. Yet, under the current system, they are still given work authorization and Social Security numbers,” he said.

They include Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Temporary Protected Status recipients. In addition, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued 882,000 work authorizations and Social Security numbers to other illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2020, the analysis states. These include asylum applicants, as well as those applying for adjustment of status and suspension of deportation, among other categories.

Not included in the numbers are the 1.8 million illegal immigrants that the Social Security Administration has estimated use Social Security numbers that don’t match their names, according to Camarota. Another 600,000 have Social Security numbers from when they were legally in the country but overstayed their visa.

“There is simply no question that millions of illegal immigrants will receive billions of dollars in COVID relief checks,” Camarota said. “This highlights an even more disturbing fact—illegal immigrants are being issued Social Security numbers in large numbers. This is a clear indication that America is simply not serious about enforcing its immigration laws.”

Asylum-seekers are routinely given work authorization while they wait for their case to be adjudicated—regardless of the merit of the application. While almost 90 percent of those who claim credible fear when presenting themselves at the border pass the initial screening, less than 20 percent are ultimately granted asylum relief by an immigration judge. For Central Americans, that number is less than 10 percent.

During the last border surge in 2019, the southern border became so overwhelmed that most illegal aliens didn’t even claim credible fear, knowing they’d still be released expeditiously into the United States—especially if they were accompanied by a child. Only about 25 percent of illegal border crossers were claiming credible fear, according to Kevin McAleenan, acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, on July 12, 2019.

A recent New York Times article ‘explained’ the philosophical origins of the sign for the new Euro currency, which looks like a letter ‘c’ with an equal sign drawn through it. The writer of the article was critical of this ‘eurocratic’ emblem, glyph, sign or logo since it lacked the traditional basis of the pound sign which derives from the Latin libra, etc. When one considers the symbols and abbreviations for other currencies, such as the franc, the schilling, the kronor, the mark, the peseta, the dinar et al., one draws a blank in regard to the dollar sign. The word, “dollar”, is derived from the German word, “Thaler”, which means “from the valley”, referring to a coin which was issued by some mint which resided in some German valley. This is a natural derivation, such as calling the Continental Dollar a “Continental”, the early currency issued by The Continental Congress of the American Revolution, neither of which were worth a damn, as we understand when someone says, ” … not worth a Continental.” But this leaves us in the dark in regard to the adoption of a sign which would be more appropriate for representing the Austrian Schilling. If a White man were to follow his own logic, a dollar sign would be a “D” with some simple addition to denote its status as a currency, rather than a letter of the alphabet. So why the dollar sign?

Joe Biden Appoints Special Envoy to Stem Border Surge as White House Asserts Situation ‘Not a Crisis’

The Biden administration appointed a special envoy Monday to help oversee its efforts to stem the ongoing influx of Central American migrants to the U.S. southern border as it faces bipartisan pressure to address the surge.

The White House remained adamant Monday that the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is “not a crisis” despite photos and videos showing otherwise.

Still, the Biden administration found it necessary to create a new position to help its effort to contain the flood of illegal migrants reaching the United States, particularly unaccompanied children. The U.S. State Department, which will oversee the new envoy, described the move as a high priority.

Nevertheless, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have yet to visit the border.

Biden officials tapped Ricardo Zúñiga to serve as a special envoy for the Northern Triangle, a region comprised of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Those three countries have long been the source of a significant portion of illegal migration to the United States.

Sen. Ted Cruz Slams President Biden for Lack of ‘Truth and Transparency’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wrote a letter urging President Joe Biden to allow the press to accompany him to the border next week to have transparency.

In the letter, Cruz mentioned his upcoming trip to the border he is taking along with 14 other colleagues. Cruz called the administration’s immigration policies “radical,” mentioning the current administration’s “policies and rhetoric promises exceedingly lax enforcement and a place to citizenship for every illegal alien,” seeing an influx of “4,500 to 6,000 illegal aliens per day.”

Cruz also emphasized what Jeh Johnson, the former Obama DHS Secretary, said in the past. “I know that 1,000 [apprehensions per day] overwhelms the system, and I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like,” Johnson has said.

“Despite your administration’s refusal to admit that this is a crisis, the American people are beginning to understand the gravity of the situation,” Cruz said. This is why Cruz will be traveling with some of his colleagues to the border this week, “to talk to the brave men and women on the ground who are working every day to stop this crisis and secure the border.

The Texas Republican continued by urging the Biden Administration to allow the press access to the border to show the public “openness and transparency” on what goes on at the border.

Cruz wrote:

But it is not enough for members of the Senate to see what is happening — the American people must see. This is why I requested that members of the media be allowed to join us. But your administration clearly and emphatically refused to offer press access. This is outrageous and hypocritical.”

At the beginning your administration, Press Secretary Jen Psaki stressed the importance of “truth and transparency” and a “deep respect for the role of free and independent press.” At the beginning of the month, Secretary Mayorkas stated that he would adhere to principles od “open and transparency.” But now, when your adminsitation faces a crisis of your own making, you are refusing to allow the very transpaceney you promised and what you demanded from prior administrations.

The Texas Republican stated the administration is hiding the truth from the American people when they are “denying the press the ability to observe, film, and report on the condition at the border is not openness or transparency.”

Are Democrats really serious about passing a DREAM Act in 2021?

The Democrats have been introducing DREAM Acts for 20 years. Some of them have passed in the House, and others have passed in the Senate, but none has passed both. Their most recent attempt just passed in the House, and — as currently written — it’s not likely to fare well in the upper chamber.

The most recent attempt is titled the “American Dream and Promise Act,” H.R. 6, but in view of all the previous failed attempts, it might more aptly be called the “False Hope Act.”

Twenty years is a long time, and the Democrats have no one to blame but themselves.

They could have moved a DREAM Act through the House and the Senate without a single Republican vote when Barack Obama was president, and he would have signed it into law. From January 2009 to January 2011, Democrats had a large majority in the House, and until Scott Brown’s special election in 2010, they had enough votes in the Senate to stop a Republican filibuster.

Do the Democrats really want to enact a DREAM Act?

If the Democrats who introduced the new DREAM Act in the House wanted it to pass in the Senate too, why did they include provisions that will make it easy for the Senate Republicans to stop it from being considered?

And why did they make it so one-sided? It seems to have been written to please the demands of Democratic constituents with little, if any, thought given to making it acceptable to the Republicans.

This is really unfortunate. Some of the Dreamers have been waiting 20 years for the enactment of a DREAM Act.

Achilles’ heel

H.R. 6 includes provisions that would provide lawful permanent resident (LPR) status for aliens who have had or were eligible for temporary protected status (TPS) on Jan. 1, 2017. This would include aliens from Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria. TPS grants to aliens from these countries have not expired yet.

A single Republican can prevent a bill with TPS legalization provisions from being considered in the Senate with a point of order objection based on INA §1254a(h), which provides that it shall not be in order for the Senate to consider any bill that would grant lawful temporary or permanent resident status to any alien receiving TPS status.

Windows 10 secretly listens to everything you say, records all keystrokes with hidden keylogger that uploads to Microsoft

Hidden inside Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system software is a keylogger spyware module that records the keystrokes and voices of users and sends this private data straight to the mother ship.

Another creepy “feature” of a software platform that was originally designed by billionaire eugenicist Bill Gates, the Windows 10 keylogger add-on was supposedly “intended for testing, not day-to-day use.” And yet the latter is what it became, though most users have no idea that it exists.

Microsoft reluctantly admitted when pressed that “we may collect voice information” and “typed characters” from users without their knowledge or expressed consent. We now know that the Washington-based corporation is doing precisely that.

“I said that ‘I seriously doubt that the worst spyware features will remain in the finished product,’” wrote PC World contributing editor Lincoln Spector. “I was wrong.”

The Windows 10 “speech, inking, typing, and privacy FAQ” section admits that when a user interacts with a Windows device by “speaking, writing (handwriting), or typing, Microsoft collects speech, inking, and typing information – including information about your Calendar and People (also known as contacts) …”

Microsoft’s Privacy Statement reiterates this, though it contains all sorts of other information in the form of 17,000 words that requires some extra time and effort to fully peruse.
