Facebook’s ‘Suggested Friends’ Feature is Helping Terrorists Network, Study Finds

The organization studied the social media habits of 1,000 ISIS supporters in 96 countries and found that the extremists were routinely meeting others through the platform.

“Facebook, in their desire to connect as many people as possible have inadvertently created a system which helps connect extremists and terrorists,” Robert Postings, one of the researchers, told The Telegraph.

The feature is meant to connect people with similar interests, and works even if your interest is ISIS. That platform has already been under fire for failing to quickly remove propaganda and material from the terror organization.

“Gregory Waters, one of the authors of the report, described how he was bombarded by suggestions for pro-Isil friends, after making contact with one active extremist on the site,” The Telegram reports.

The researchers found that over the course of six months, less than half of the 1,000 accounts they were monitoring were suspended from the platform.

“The fact that Facebook’s own recommended friends algorithm is directly facilitating the spread of this terrorist group on its site is beyond unacceptable,” Waters said.

A spokesman for Facebook told The Telegram that there is “no place for terrorists on Facebook.”

“Our approach is working – 99 per cent of ISIS and Al Qaeda-related content we remove is found by our automated systems. But there is no easy technical fix to fight online extremism,” the spokesman added.

NXIVM's Powerful Friends And Long History Of Known Abuses

How did NXIVM manage to stay underneath the radar for so long? The answer is, they didn't really. As far back as 2007 the New York Post reported on the cult and how they were run out of Arkansas during Bill Clinton's tenure as governor. The same article also pointed out how the cult and its members had sunk thousands of dollars into Hillary's presidential campaign over a decade ago. Apart from the Clintons, Keith Raniere's NXIVM cult had attracted the Seagrams heiresses Sara and Clare Bronfman. The Bronfman clan were famed bootleggers with connections to Meyer Lansky of the Jewish mob before the family went "legit." In fact, the Bronfman crime family was instrumental in supporting John McCain's role in Arizona politics.

Nancy Salzman and the Bronfman sisters were also members of the Clinton Global Initiative in addition to being NXIVM VIPs. Despite the fact that the story is only just now making major headlines, the abuses are not at all a new occurrence. 15 years ago Kristin Marie Snyder committed suicide. She was last seen leaving an NXIVM course and the note she left behind indicts the cult:

“I was brainwashed and my emotional center of the brain was killed/turned off.”

The cult also had some other pretty shady dealings. Psychological experimentation on unsuspecting victims perpetrated by a doctor involved hearkens back to the heyday of the CIA's MK-Ultra mind control research. The cult used a "brain cap" that attached electrodes to the scalp during some of these experiments which involved viewing simulated rape and other horrific scenes.

As far back as 2012 a Times Union article labeled the group an "extreme cult" after news of the cruel and unwarranted psychological experimentation first broke. Recently, the state Department of Health dismissed two separate complaints related to the cult's experiments (which involved branding and psychological abuse) under the auspices of Dr. Brandon Porter who has since been arrested for illegal human experimentation. The Office of Professional Medical Conduct however argued that the "issues you describe did not occur within the doctor-patient relationship." In other words, since the cult doctor was acting as "cult doctor" at the moment rather than as a personal practitioner supposedly nothing unethical occurred.

Speaking of MK-Ultra, the Bronfman family were educated at McGill University in Canada which has long been connected to the MK-Ultra experimentation. Dr. Ewen Cameron was involved in mind control experiments on witting and unwitting human subjects. Ironically, former President Bill Clinton even made a public apology about the US's role in Canadian mind control research.

So, considering the fact that the cult already had some powerful connections (including politicians like the Clintons, Richard Branson, Oprah, Rick Ross, Jay-Z and even one of the Dalai Lama's entourage) maybe the better question is how is it they were finally stopped? Well, it most likely has to do with one of the victims being the grandaughter of Catherine Oxenberg. She not only starred in the TV show Dynasty, she's a sion of one somewhat. Eldest daughter of Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia formerly married to a close personal friend of the Kennedy family. Evidently it takes someone connected to a Dynasty to take down a group connected to so many other dynasties.
