It's clear that more info is needed here. A total power failure would leave the rudder in the position it was in when the power went out. The question I have is what caused the power loss. These ships have back-up generators that can be started and loads switched in less than a minute. Sabotage is possible, so one must ask who would benefit from the canal being closed to traffic for an extended period?

 

I'm still betting on the cause being crew incompetence, but the possibilities exist that this could be anything from state actors to a shipping company pulling an insurance scam. Do not expect the Egyptians to prioritize any investigation, nor the country the ship is flagged under.
