Yale Psychiatrist Who Declared Trump Mentally Unfit Has Been Fired, and Sheâs Suing
Bandy Lee, the psychiatrist who repeatedly diagnosed Trump as mentally unfit and dangerous, without ever even having met him, has apparently been fired by Yale University.
What a shame.
At one point, Leeâs frequent long-distance diagnoses extended to Professor Alan Dershowitz. He wrote a strongly worded letter to Yale, which apparently played a role.
This all began unfolding last spring, but weâre just finding out now.

Bandy Lee MED â94 DIV â95, a formerly Yale-affiliated faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry in School of Medicine, filed a complaint against the University on Monday alleging âunlawful termination⌠due to her exercise of free speech about the dangers of Donald Trumpâs presidency.â
University spokesperson Karen Peart declined to comment on the specifics of the case. Yale was the only named defendant.
Leeâs complaint alleges that Yale fired her in response to a January 2020 tweet that characterized âjust about allâ of former president Donald Trumpâs supporters as suffering from âshared psychosisâ and said that Alan Dershowitz, a lawyer on Trumpâs legal team, had âwholly taken on Trumpâs symptoms by contagion.â Dershowitz responded to the tweet with a letter to Yale administrators, in which he complained that Leeâs tweet constituted âa serious violation of the ethics rules of the American Psychiatric Associationâ and requested that she be disciplined.
Diagnosing people from afar is a big no-no in psychiatry. They even have a description for that. Itâs called the âGoldwater Rule.â
Leeâs superiors at Yale warned her about it, and it looks as though that was one of the factors in her firing:
âAlthough the committee does not doubt that you are acting on the basis of your personal moral code,â the letter read, âyour repeated violations of the APAâs Goldwater Rule and your inappropriate transfer of the duty to warn from the treatment setting to national politics raised significant doubts about your understanding of crucial ethical and legal principles in psychiatry.â
The American Psychiatric Associationâs Goldwater Rule states that it is unethical for psychiatrists to comment on a public figureâs mental faculties in an official capacity unless granted permission or after a medical examination.

Mystery of winged tiny 'human skeletons' found in 'basement of old London house'
Skeletal winged bodies of fairies, werewolves and aliens were said to have been found in the basement of an old house in London.
The macabre collection features what appears to be a range of mythical beasts, in cases and jars in gruesome poses.
Fairies seen with their flesh rotted away and their wings nailed to display boards are joined by sinister-looking contorted alien bodies and hairy humanoid remains.
The hoard also featured sketches of Jack the Ripper victims Catherine Eddowes and Elizabeth Stride along with alleged human hearts and other organs preserved in jars.
The gruesome exhibits were said to have been the collection of Thomas Theodore Merrylin, who was described as "a rich aristocrat and biologist in the 1800s".
A blog post about the supposed finds claimed: "In 1960 in London at the time of clearing the site for construction of a new residential neighborhood, the old long-abandoned mansion belonged to Thomas Theodore Merrylin was set for demolition.
"In the basement of the home, builders have discovered several thousand small wooden boxes tightly sealed.
"Imagine their surprise when they began to find inside the bodies of strange mythical creatures, which seemed to have been living only in fairy tales."
The shocking artifacts were revealed by artist Alex CF, who claimed Merrylinâs diaries refer to "all sorts of advanced ideas that didnât exist at the time, such as quantum physics and the multiverse theory."
His diaries also allegedly contain scientific explanations for many of the mythical-looking specimens in his collection.

QAnon believers have had a rough summer. Trumpâs July 4th rally, when many believed the late John F. Kennedy Jr. would emerge from hiding to claim his rightful role as Trumpâs running mate, came and went. So did July 31st, the projected date of âdeclas,â or the moment when the community believed that declassified documents pointing to deep state corruption would finally be dropped. Now, in what is perhaps the ultimate example of kicking someone while theyâre down, Yahoo News has published a 15-page internal memo from the FBI declaring conspiracy theories a domestic terrorism threat.
Distributed on May 30th, the memo from the bureauâs Phoenix office notes that it is the first report of its kind to take aim at âconspiracy-driven domestic terrorism,â citing a number of violent incidents the bureau believes were linked to conspiracy theories. âThe FBI assesses these conspiracy theories very likely will emerge, spread, and evolve in the modern information marketplace, occasionally driving both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts,â the document says.

Mexican President AndrĂŠs Manuel LĂłpez Obrador blamed President Biden for the migrant surge that has erupted into a full-blown border crisis, arguing the âexpectationsâ he set left migrants with the perception that they would be let in the US.
LĂłpez Obrador made the remarks while speaking to reporters Tuesday, the morning after his government met with Bidenâs envoys for the region, who were visiting to address the record spikes in illegal border crossings.
âExpectations were created that with the government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so,â he said at his daily morning presser.
LĂłpez Obrador, a center-left populist who developed a positive working relationship with former President Trump, added: âPeople donât go to the United States for fun, they go out of necessity.â

The Biden administrationâs undoing of Trumpâs border policies has prompted a flood of Central American and Mexican illegal migrants at the US border, including thousands of unescorted children.
Central Americans looking for refuge from the Northern Triangle countries â El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala â have taken these policy moves, as well as the overwhelmingly more welcoming tone from Democrats, as a sign that this president is inviting them to cross the border.
